Poll: More than half of Hispanics identify as conservative
The Dallas Morning News ^ | By ROBERT T. GARRETT

AUSTIN – A bent to conservatism and family makes Hispanics a promising pool of votes for Republicans, but the party's targeting of illegal immigrants has withered its attraction.

Regardless, Gov. Rick Perry has fared relatively well, perhaps because of his anti-Washington rhetoric and his careful immigration stance, a recent poll indicates.

Well maybe while the Hispanics that you refer to are waiting for a spanish speaking MSM media outlet to emerge, or a Spanish speaking Limbaugh, you could suggest to them that while they live in America they could learn English and join the rest of the English speaking Americans.

Just a thought!

In my relationships with hispanics who are here LEGALLY, and thus LEGALLY allowed to vote, I find that they are very much against illegal immigration. The reason is that they played by the rules and waited patiently, but all the illegal fence-jumpers rushed in before them.

Most of them probably are social conservatives, but not necessarily ‘conservative’ in other areas such as economic or America-first conservatism.

I get a kick out of how everyone playing on Hispanics as something other than originally from Spain.I understand that there is the derivative now in South America but, originally they are from the Conquistadors landing their. My grandmother is from Spain and I don’t feel any less European than say a French Canadians does towards France. With that said, most true Hispanics are Catholic and very Traditional so i would expect them to lean towards Conservatism. Sorry about the first rant.

I would argue they view the term “conservative” to be “traditional” primarily. Would seriously doubt they would look at themselves as conservative in the fiscal sense.

Moreover, if “hispanics” were so conservative, why would the left be so keen on tuning them into citizens and VOTERS??

What an idiotic generalization. All "hispanics" are not illegals.

Not idiotic at all. ‘hispanics’ vote democrat/socialist, legal or otherwise. Fact.

I was chastised by my boss in front of a customer when someone asked me if there was a large Mexican population where I lived. I had responded there was a large Hispanic group made up of many countries in the area including Mexicans. I was told flat out that Mexicans would be offended and that they are Latino - not Hispanic.

I honestly didn’t realize this was such a slur. It seems like everything I have seen on paperwork, etc. notes Caucasian, African American or Hispanic.

Stumped

“keen on turning hispanics into citizens” is a tell on lumping hispanics and illegals and non-citizens into the same basket. Ignorant.

Yeah.
I would agree that most Hispanics are “conservative” in the traditional social conservative sense. But then most Hispanics then tend to vote Democrat anyways, because they like all the “free” government services that the Democrats keep pushing, like “free” health care, and all the “free” social security benefits that they keep getting.
Bottom line is that like blacks, Hispanics will almost always vote for the Democrats, so it's pretty stupid for Republicans to throw away core Republican values and pander to Hispanics. If Hispanics want to join the Republican Party, they can subscribe to OUR core values. We are not gonna sacrifice our core Republican values for Hispanics votes that we are not going to get anyway.

I’ll never understand why the majority of Hispanic voters - ie. those who immigrated here LEGALLY - support amnesty for the line-jumpers. If I was Hispanic, I’d support a guy like Tom Tancredo.

and if the GOP had a brain and actually mentioned the homosexual problem we have then we’d get even more hispanics voting for the GOP."

No we wouldn't. Plenty of blacks and Hispanics voted against California's Prop 8, but happily and enthusiastically voted for Obama.

There might be an issue, or two that Hispanics agree with Republicans on, but it ends there. They, by in large, want unfettered immigration, free health care, racial preferences and set-asides, and a robust "social safety net" - all things antithetical to conservatism.

“however the problem is that there are no hispanic “limbaugh’s”

...no, but we celebrate “cinco de mayo” like it’s Christmas!
There’s “LaRaza”, “Telemundo”, “Sabado Gigante”, dial 1 for Spanish, signs written in spanish through Wal-Mart, magazines specifically for hispanics and on and on! Why in hell does every “minority” whine about not having enough to “convey” a message? If hispanics spoke this country’s unnofficial language; ENGLISH, then they’d have no problem getting an “articulate message” from Rush! He’s never disparaging or condesending. “Conservative values” are “conservative values”! The same in any language. Hispanics are conservative when it comes to family. Otherwise, most have been trained like seals to take government hand outs.

“A bent to conservatism and family makes Hispanics,,,”

Kind of hard to believe considering they overwhelmingly vote liberal.

Hispanic Values don't extend to such things as stopping to report, render assistence, or taking responsibility for motor vehicle vs. pedestrian accidents. Please tell me that I'm dead wrong. But, seriously why has there been so many fatal hit-n-run drunken driver fatalities by illegal aliens? I just can't understand the alleged Mexican machismo in play that allows some cabrone to leave their helpless victims to die on the side of the road. How does somebody live with themselves after doing this kind of thing.

Sure, I'll admitt that Hispanic's are in general 'family based' which is a very good thing.

Cubans, Spanish, and Portuguese do not consider themselves “Hispanic”. Mexicans who have maintained their genetic and cultural ties with Spain do not consider themselves “Hispanic”.

Every time I have to go through this litany of what's what, who's what, I roll my eyes and say to myself, “And WE'RE supposed to be the racists!” Oh, yeah, we're really awful. It took the last 30 years to make me realize that we weren't all Americans. Ever since the 60s and all the racial upheaval, I've been learning just how racist I am — and I didn't even realize it.

I think some hispanics sense a certain hostility from some conservatives.

When they vote like conservatives then they will get the credability. GWB got less than 30% and he worked hard for them.
