Reuters is reporting that Barack Obama launched a vigorous defense of his economic agenda Wednesday, rejecting critics who call his policies "socialism" and insisting he aims to boost U.S. competitiveness abroad. Speaking to the Business Roundtable, Obama said, "Contrary to the claims of some of my critics, I am an ardent believer in the free market."
Obama said his efforts to enact sweeping legislation to overhaul financial regulations and set caps on carbon emissions to fight climate change were not aimed at thwarting businesses.
"We have arrived at a juncture in our politics where reasonable efforts to update our regulations, or make basic investments in our future, are too often greeted with cries of 'government takeover' or even 'socialism'," Obama said.
"Getting this balance right has less to do with big government or small government than it does smart government. It's not about being anti-business or pro-government; it's about being pro-growth and pro-jobs," he said.
Despite Obama's protestations, our cousin's in England have his number.
Adam Shaw, a Brit, says those of us across the pond who analyze American politics know exactly who it is you have in the White House. Obama is not some new post-political entity. Nor is he some form of Stalinist that will set up a USSA. He is a normal, well-spoken, charismatic socialist who in Britain would sit quite happily towards the left of the Labour Party alongside figures such as Tony Benn, Aneurin Bevan, Harold Wilson, and Ed Balls. To call someone a socialist is not conspiratorial, and it is not fear-mongering; it is simply the truth, and it is time for some in the media to take a deep breath and admit it -- America has a socialist leading the country.
Welcome to the club. It stinks!
Just because he says it, doesn’t make it true!
Castro came to the US before the “revolution” and was hailed by the American press and liberal elites as a “George Washington of Cuba”, was even introduced by Ed Sullivan on his variety show as same...
Castro continually claimed he was NOT a communist...right up to the point that he gained power, then admitted that he had ALL ALONG been a communist....much to the “unexpected” surprise of all his American supporters....
If it LOOKS like a socailist, TALKS like a socialist, HANGS OUT with socialist, quotes Saul Alinksy in his “lectures”, appoints self-proclaimed communists/socialists to “czar” positions, gives soul-brother hand shakes to Hugo Chavez, supports outsed socialist dictators in South America, is advancing at light speed the destruction of capitalism...then it IS A SOCLIALIST.
Just as long as the free market promotes Social Justice and fairness rather than produce profit, Mr Obama is a believer in the Free Market.
Egalitarianism is more important to Obama then innovation and ambition that occurs in the capitalist system.
Either wy, at the root of it are absolute socialistic principles.
Well, Barry, we have this little American saying you ought to read up on...
"Actions speak louder than words. What you are doing speaks so loudly that any honest, sane individual cannot hear what you are saying."
“I am not a nazi!” - Adolf Hitler
“I am not a Catholic!” - Pope Benedict XVI
“I am not a homosexual!” - Elton John
“I am not a socialist!” - Barack Obama
BLAH! BLAH! BLAH!.....GET THE BOY SOCIALIST OUT OF OUR WHITE HOUSE!....
Smoke and mirrors! Watch the other hand!
“I was born in Hawaii” yet wont produce a BC
“I am not a socialist” yet spends gadzillions
“I am a Christian” member of Rev. Wright’s “church”
Mr. Obama, you wrote in your autobiography of how in college you sided with the Marxist professors and disaffected punks. What brought you around to embrace and champion Capitalism? Bueller? Bueller?
Then ask him the same thing about Islam.
The “best” argument he could make last year about his healthcare plan was to softsell the Socialist angle by saying that we already have “support” for Medicare and Medicaid. There IS NO DEFENSE against it being branded Socialized Medicine.
“Thank God I have always avoided persecuting my enemies”
-Adolf Hitler
Well, actually, I’ve already begun changing my eating habits and excersizing more. So far I’ve lost around 10 pounds - don’t want to say how many more I have to lose - sigh
His force of his objections expose the truth of the accusation and its as obvious as they come.
I mean lets be real - if Vladimir Lenin walked into the US and became a political figure does anyone think he'd actually admit to being a Communist?
This is what I love (hate that is) about liberals - they deny the truth of what their aims really are.
At least level and be honest with the country and explain WHY you so adamantly support the Mao connections and Van Jones types in your government because right now what your are saying here Mr. 0bama is completely out of step with those policies and people you have stood behind.
Obama is a Socialist/Communist - CASE CLOSED.
Like when he has his next news conference?
When Bush 43 didn't have a news conference for 6 months it was unacceptable to the MSN.
Obozo has a free pass (never has a press conference) so he never has to answer the hard questions. But he probably won't be asked the hard question anyway. As you can tell I am frustrated to the point of insanity.
Good point.
We are going to take things away from you for your own good

“Obamunism”
Obama and the people around him are are Obamunists — Obama is the prototypical Obamunist — a blend of Marx, Lenin, Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Che, Capone, Billy Sunday, Boss Tweed, Muhammad, and Tupac — they are hybrids, as is Obama — they use all the tools — whatever will get them power and keep them in power.
