Toy Rifles Seized in Tacoma
The Seattle Times ^ | 2/25/10 | John De Leon

Posted on 02/25/2010 11:15:26 AM PST by Rinnwald

Earlier this month, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Port of Tacoma seized a shipment of 30 toy M-4 automatic rifles that had arrived on Oct. 20 in a 40-foot ocean container.

The shipment's manifest listed the contents as "Toys and Parts" and was shipped from a manufacturer in Taiwan, according to a Customs and Border Protection news release. The rifles were the same size, weight and look of an M-4 automatic rifle, which is used by the U.S. military. The rifles had no serial numbers and did not have an orange-blaze tip which is required for all imported of toy guns.

Valiant C-Men saving us from orange tip-less toy rifles. KOMO News earlier called them "machine guns", but The Seattle Times wisely toned it down to "toy rifles" in the emerging realization that the Big Bust was, well..a big bust.

The money quote from the article:

"These rifles could have had far-reaching and potentially devastating ramifications if they had gotten into the hands of individuals who wanted to do harm in the American population", Customs and Border Protection Area Port Director Rolando Suliveras Jr. said in a news release.

Such as so called “Law enforcement officers” shooting at young citizens who have the right to keep and bear arms because they, not realizing they were toys, thought they were armed?

Soon as I read the headline, I started looking for anything discussing the orange tip. I found it.

Without the orange tip, toy guns are illegal and they had grounds to confiscate. Not that I agree with the law, but it is the law.

Or perhaps a rash of idiots entering banks with said toy and a note...or perhaps pointing one at a soccer mom in order to hijack her minivan, or worse. I can imagine a lot of scenarios where these toys could cause a great deal of mayhem for people who don't have the wherewithall to tell the difference between a real M4 and a fake one.

Just sayin'.

Great example of a main stream media template story…see how news runs, see how news flies, see how news makes fact, see how news fits the desired story line, see how news makes propaganda…

And how does this eliminate or exacerbate what goes on anyway?

The funny thing is the press release, not the interception. "Hey, we got REAL GUNS!!!!"

>Or perhaps a rash of idiots entering banks with said toy and a note...

Which is why the banker should have a gun at every booth and the tellers trained in how to use them...

>or perhaps pointing one at a soccer mom in order to hijack her minivan, or worse.

Which is why the soccer-mom has the Constitutionally-acknowledged right to keep and bear arms. As well as the legal defense of “I was in fear for my life and that of my children” when the perps are found with multiple .38 holes in them.

>I can imagine a lot of scenarios where these toys could cause a great deal of mayhem for people who don’t have the wherewithall to tell the difference between a real M4 and a fake one.

That is irrelevant. Our judicial system is supposed to be about after-the-fact-provable-crimes, NOT every COULD or MIGHT possibility.

If you’re concerned with could & might so much, then I would like to point out that you could be run over in a traffic accident as you cross the street, or you might not see the car in your blind-spot as you switch lanes... both walking and driving are potentially fatal.

>Just sayin’.

And so am I. But let me ask you this: if I have the right to keep and bear arms [and I live in an open carry-state], why did the police show up to a call-in report that I had a gun? Moreover, why did they harass my family when the report that I was there turn out to be false?

I trust the PD about as far as can throw a police cruiser.

The WE M4 CQBR Gas Blowback Airsoft Rifle from WE TTI is the best airsoft rifle on the Gas Blowback market. WE has taken an existing design from AFC and updated it for a more powerful reliable rifle. The WE M4 is regarded by many as the best GBB M4, and possibly the best GBB airsoft rifle.

The WE TTI M4 CQBR does feature the latest internals and a reinforced steel bolt stop. The steel bolt stop is an upgrade from the original and is much more durable. This model also features a steel CO2 nozzle. The RIS unit on the WE M4 CQB features rail slot markings for simple reattachment of accessories in their correct location.

Operationally, the WE M4 CQBR is identical to a real AR-15 or M4 Carbine. The charging handle pulls back the bolt, which can be locked to the rear with the bolt stop. Pressing the bolt stop or pulling the charging handle will release the bolt stop. Each magazine has a latch which will lock the bolt open when the last round is fired; this latch can be turned off. This function allows for realistic training which mimics the real rifle.

With the advent of the WE M4, SWAT teams, Law Enforcement, and any other individuals who are interested in training in a tactical environment have the perfect tool. The WE M4 is economical to train with compared to .223 rounds, and can be used in dense environments where firearms training is impractical. Due to the similarity of the WE M4 to real AR-15s, they are an ideal training tool, as the muscle memory is identical between the GBB airsoft rifle and a real rifle.

Many military units and law enforcement departments already using the WE M4 GBB for training have remarked that it is the best training rifle they have ever used.

The WE M4 CQBR is shooting between 450fps and 457fps. It also include a 6.03mm tightbore barrel.

The WE TTI M4 CQBR, also known as the AWSS (Advanced Weapon Simulation System), has some confusion regarding ‘versions’. Most of the differences regarding versions, editions, etc is mere marketing. The three functional differences are in the hop-up unit, trigger pack, and bolt stop. Almost all WE M4s carry the steel bolt stop, with only the first few off the line using a weaker pot-metal bolt stop. All current WE M4s have the newest hop-up rubber. While some people will talk about the ‘older hop-up unit’ as compared to the new one, they are the same unit, with the same adjustment; only the rubber piece itself is different. Any rifle with an older hop-up rubber can be converted to the new one simply by installing the 6.02mm WE M4 tightbore barrel we sell, which includes the new hop-up rubber. The trigger pack in the current rifles is reinforced as compared to some older rifles, though the design is identical.

Make sure to grab a Airsoft Innovations Propane Kit, a Madbull Airsoft Propane Adapter, or a Sapien Arms Propane Adatper Kit for Gas Guns to gas up your WE M4 Gas Mags. Although, if you prefer green gas, then the Sapien Arms Ultra Elite Green Gas will work as well.

What do YOU propose “so called law-enforcement officers” do with young upstanding citizens who use toy guns to do hold ups or who point that at officers?

What would you do if somebody pointed what looks exactly like a real gun from 10’ at you?

And we must always obey the law...

I bet the orange tips were sperate, its not uncommon to do some assembly when the product gets to this country. Orange tips may have been manufactured somewhere else for putting on the guns by the wholesaler/distributer. My guess is they are playing CYA and making the orange tips an issue after the “oh sh*t moment that these are not real guns!”

I just meant that it is not a story. If they had had the orange tips, it would be more of a story, assuming some other pretty well known law was not being violated.

"What would you do if someone pointed what looks exactly like a real gun from 10' at you?

First I would do what they say. Then, if I had a chance, I would draw my REAL firearm and ventilate them.

The worst part of the story is that they say one could easily swap out some parts in this air-soft gun and turn it into a full-auto firearm. Poppycock.
