According to a new Zogby poll, Americans are more concerned about seeing bad bills passed than getting nothing done, and more annoyed by politicians who think they are smarter than Americans than partisan bickering.

Zogby asked adults to choose which statement on “the problem with Washington” came closer to their own view.

The first choice was between, “The problem with Washington is that nothing ever gets done” and “the problem with Washington is that it passes too many bad bills.”

For those polled, 49 percent said too many bad bills were the main concern, and 37 percent said it was that nothing ever got done.

M49 percent said too many bad bills were the main concern

Well, yes.

Instead of feeling pressure to "do something", a politician should be under pressure to explain how we managed to survive as a nation without his new law and yet suddenly we have no choice but to sign it law now now now.

If a politician promised me that he would do nothing, nothing at all for the next four years, he would be more valuable in office than most of his colleagues busily trying to create a legacy writing legislation that we've managed to live without for two hundred years.

Ah...well...I'm sure the democrats will just discard the results of this poll denouncing Zogby as a republican stooge...opps.

The problem with Washington is that they are constantly coming at us for more. We’re sick of it.

I have never hated a politician more in my life than I hate Nancy Pelosi.

I would piss on her grave.

Didn’t the people vote for Socialism when they elected Obama?

No, most of them voted for “hope” in some loose idea they couldn’t quite put their finger on and in some sort of dreamy directionless change without any specific goal. The rest of them voted for a black man who they figured would probably give them more handouts.

Many voters vote for someone who promises something that they didn’t earn. They think Americans are entitled to this or that. Few politicians preach personal responsibility. The business of being a politician is to
stay in office and make promises that are not practical.

Well, we had vitually all of Hollywood and most of the media on Obama’s side and all of them are rich or well paid and in no need of a handout. Most college students along with their liberal teachers also voted for Obama’s “change” in the “hopes” of squashing conservatism. “Smart people” voted for Obama because of the prevailing popular philosophy which was that their three biggest enemies were God, guns and patriotism. Believe it or not, in the minds of most Americans, Bush stood for all three of these. Since Bush was supposedly responsible for all of the country’s ills they wanted someone with the exact opposite viewpoint. Now we have Obama who, regardless what he says, hates God, guns and American patriotism.

I’m just thrilled that the Democrats have over-reached in all their attempts to push through their liberal agenda. I guess they thought since Obama was so very LOVED that folks wouldn’t really be paying attention. WRONG!

I agree. Americans are waking up out of their sleep and are indeed paying attention. It’s also very hard to sleep when your pissed off. :-)

I would entertain a campaign promise or a platform plank pledging to delete at least one bill a week from the register. Or requiring the deletion of one piece of legislation for every new piece passed.

I would also entertain the possibility of allowing them to keep their precious earmarks -- so long as there was a serious effort to eliminate fraud and waste. Medicare fraud and waste alone is estimated to be 2-3x the earmark total.
