(CNN) -- Actor Andrew Koenig, who had been missing since February 14, committed suicide, his father told reporters after his son's body was found Thursday in a park in Vancouver, British Columbia.

"My son took his own life," Walter Koenig said at a news conference in the park.

He didn’t do it to his parents. Saying something like they suggests his parents might have had some control over the outcome of his life. He thought the hole he was in was too deep to get out of.

He was Walter's son? I had no idea. Didn't know of him, but saw the story this week and of course I had heard of Growing Pains.

He has his father’s eyes. So sad to hear about this, I really thought he was going to be found jaunting around Vancouver.

He is was a guest actor in ST DS:9 Season 2 episode 10 Sanctuary. I own the entire series on DVD and am going to play it now.

Love this picture. A beautiful face. . .but apparently, too much sadness to bear. Am so sorry to hear this; but at least they found him.

The episode is about a species of people who find their way into the worm whole and to Federation space from the Changlings.

There are 3 mil of them and they want to immigrate to Bajor.

I remember it. The Bajorans kind of had a point about not wanting to absorb that many people when they were just getting on their feet themselves.

Well the episode showed in 1993. DS: 9 was RDM’s baby. Ronald D Moore of BSG and Caprica. I just read an article that Andrew lived in Vancouver from 1989-1992; one year before the episode in ST DS: 9.

I always thought of it as Ira Steven Behr’s baby. RDM brought an interesting perspective. He said that there were diverse views behind the scenes—it wasn’t an atheistic, socialistic monolith that the Roddenberry worldview suggested. That could be seen in his episode where Jake and Nog learned about capitalism while trying to get a gift for Jake’s dad.

Never saw Caprica. Very much disliked BSG.

As for Andrew, I only knew him from Growing Pains. It was one of the few shows I watched growing up and he was a favorite. I don’t consider him selfish or a coward. It’s very hard to understand how dark a place he was in, but easy to imagine how it would seem there were few options open to him.

I have been in that hole, and sometimes you can only live a minute at a time...The right medication and doctor help some. I have learned the symptoms of depression coming on and go on anti-depressive medication if it last over a week....

My first occurance was in the 70's. The thing that surprised me was my doctor in talking to me ask if it was possible someone on campus could have put something in my coffee..I had very atypical symptoms.....

Who knows, it was the early 70's and lots of people were doing drugs, (not me) the thought that someone could have put something in my drink on campus was not anything I could think of someone doing..

Now adays its done lots, No one can really understands depression unless they have been in that deep hole without a light. Talking to someone that has been there and overcomes it is the person best to talk to...

If you have been there, they know you won't be judging them when they talk about it..(not saying someone would be judging, but depression puts one in a very fragile state of mind) They can continue their fight knowing that there is possibly hope there is an end to their blackness)

You are right, he did not do this to his parents...he did it to end his pain...

"Koenig was an activist interested in many causes, his father’s Web site says. He was arrested at the Rose Bowl in 2008 while protesting U.S. involvement in the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in China. He opposed U.S. participation because of China’s support for a repressive regime in Myanmar, also known as Burma, the Web site says."

Jane Valez Mitchell claimed on her show, Issues, that she was his friend and that they shared animal rights, environmentalism and other liberal views. Can't help but believe that his whacko-lib extremist views contributed greatly to his depression. It's hard to stay balanced when you stay mad at the world!

Seemingly, in a World governed by those he supported - only to find out they are abusive, tyrannical Marxists. Wonder if he left a suicide note?
