Gov. Deval Patricks standing with voters is so weak that this years race for governor is shaping up as a contest between his two rivals, a new Suffolk University-7News poll shows.
This race is really between Charlie Baker and Tim Cahill, said David Paleologos, director of the Suffolk University Political Research Center, which conducted the poll. Whoever emerges between the Baker-Cahill race is likely to be the winner.

The data quoted still has Patrick with an 8-point lead over his next closest competitor, the Republican. If anything, the story could have and should have been titled, "Independent Candidate Runs Cover for Unpopular Democrat", IMHO.
There certainly was an emphasis placed on the quote by the Director of the Research Center.
There was. To me, it’s clear that absent the 3rd party candidate, Baker would be well ahead of Patrick, already. If Patrick get’s reelected, it will be because of this Cahill character. The reporter goes out of her way to NOT make that point
"Let's con them all!"
Go Cahill !
AMEN!!!
Cahill is at least a micro smidge better than the RINO candidates.
And he’s not running to help Patrick. It’s not always a conspiracy.
True that!
Baker is an uber-RINO and Mihos is mentally unstable.
I still maintain Patrick jumps ship to DC and Tim “Lefty” Murray will be the Rat nominee.
Like I’ve said, Cahill is the dog with the least amount of fleas.
Educate the uniformed.
Just from browsing their respective sites, it seems that Cahill is a conventional liberal - pro-abortion, unabashed supporter of homosexual marriage, "reasonable gun restriction" while claiming to be a 2nd Amendment supporter-big red flag, and mentions nothing about illegals on his site other than he doesn't support tuition credits for them.
OTOH, Baker doesn't mention abortion, 2nd Amendment or marriage at all, so perhaps they are carbon copies of each other.
Baker will be another useless clone of Slick Willard (or Jane Swift, for that matter), which is the last thing the MA GOP needs. Cahill’s emphasis will be on fiscal matters, and he will cause no willful harm to the GOP as a RINO like Baker would. Plus, as I’ve said only about a thousand times, there is no point to elect any Republican as MA Governor until such time there are enough members of the legislature to sustain a veto. A 90% Dem legislature can both simultaneously overrule/ignore and blame a GOP Governor.
1,000,000% right on FMDJ!!!
Baker has donated 10’s of thousands of $$$ to illegal alien “rights” organizations.
The Herald ran a couple of stories on this back in ~August, 2009.
