MSNBC Gets Pranked by Fake Team USA Goalie
TV Newser ^ | Feb. 26, 2010 | Chris Ariens

Posted on 02/27/2010 10:04:44 AM PST by Beaten Valve

MSNBC interrupted "Hardball" so that MSNBC's Willie Geist could do a phone interview with Ryan Miller, the goalie of Team USA hockey. The reason: Geist had done an interview earlier this evening with a man who was claiming to be Miller. The interview caught the attention of friends and fellow NHL players when the fake Ryan Miller had predicted USA would win gold Sunday.

Geist: First and foremost, Ryan, please accept our apology. It's a mistake that never should have happened. We misrepresented your name. We regret it deeply and I personally feel terrible about it. Miller: No problem. I appreciate a good prank. But I do try to keep my reputation intact... I just want to clear up I will not be guaranteeing a gold medal. I look forward to a great game to compete for a gold medal, though.

Later, Miller told Geist he's "pretty laid back" and wouldn't have predicted such a thing. "I got a few messages from friends and a lot of different PR staff on different NHL teams are getting a hold of people and asking if I'd become that much different and that cocky because of this. I assure you I'm not that kind of a person," said Miller.

"Well, I thought it sounded fishy at the time," said Geist. "I'm sorry I didn't stop it sooner than we did." Geist then tossed back to Chris Matthews who continued with "Hardball." The gold medal game will be played Sunday afternoon.

"Well, I thought it sounded fishy at the time,"

That's nothing. There is a left-wing, jackass narcissist impersonating a president and they haven't caught on yet.

And Baba Booey to y’all!

And you just had to know the whole time that Al Michaels (who was a Stern fan) had to just be laughing his ass off, and probably had to struggle with whether or not to let Jennings in on it.

I watched that live and knew it was a prank. Check out this if you have a moment, it is from yesterday:

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - It’s not the only famous broadcast Al Michaels gets asked about, you know. “There’s the earthquake, ‘the miracle,’ and the O.J. chase,’’ said Michaels with a laugh during a recent interview. “That’s the hat trick for me.

Like John Lowenstein of the Baltimore Orioles. He was once questioned by a reporter (in Texas I believe) about catching the ball one-handed all the time. The reporter asked him, "Who was the first major league player to make one-handed catches?" Without batting an eye, Lo said, "That would have to be Pete Gray." So this reporter goes off and writes a story about how Pete Gray was the first player to make one-handed catches on a routine basis.

What a PATHETIC “news” organization.

I'm glad you used quotes around "news" so as not to denigrate the word by applying it to something as subpar as MSNBC.

On the other hand, I think you have denigrated the word "organization".
... not to mention "pathetic".
