CNN: Liberals and Atheists Have Higher IQs
NewsBusters ^ | 02/28/2010 | Noel Sheppard

"Political, religious and sexual behaviors may be reflections of intelligence, a new study finds."

So began an article published at CNN.com Friday guaranteed to anger conservatives from coast to coast.

The piece continued, "Evolutionary psychologist Satoshi Kanazawa at the the London School of Economics and Political Science correlated data on these behaviors with IQ from a large national U.S. sample and found that, on average, people who identified as liberal and atheist had higher IQs."

Folks are warned about proceeding further, for the content might be really offensive to some (h/tips to NB readers Stan and Chesley):

They surveyed college professors? Or ACORN workers?

This parallels a recent study report that said students at religious/fundamentalist colleges have lower SAT scores.

Not that I necessarily believe ANYTHING that CNN would air, but I’ve worked with several people who have boasted of their high IQ’s and didn’t have enough common sense to make a pot of tea.

Perhaps, who cares, it’s like putting a 1000hp engine in a car with a rubber band transmission and skinny tires, it’s being wasted.

They are mentally defective.

higher IQs and atheists?

Makes sense to me. They tend to think way more of themselves
than they should - and pride is always the downfall of those
who end up far from God.

Only .003% of the population has an IQ higher than mine - and I'm to the right of Atilla the Hun.

So there.

My reaction is "even if true, so what?"

Are these "smart liberals" asserting that, on account of their superior wisdom, they have the moral right to order stupid people how to run their own lives?

Ditto on the IQ

But, intelligence is what one does, not what one thinks

The study found that young adults who said they were "very conservative" had an average adolescent IQ of 95, whereas those who said they were "very liberal" averaged 106.

So they consider 106 to be a high IQ? I blow that off the chart and do not consider myself to be all that exceptional.

With you there. Mine is a significant three digit number and liberal schools bored the hell out of me. I was smarter than about every teacher and professor I have ever run cross. Now they may have more knowledge in some small specific field f endeavor but on a problem solving scale I kicked their a$$es. And we stand together on the right side.

Conservatives built the greatest nation in history, while liberals are now destroying it.

If the above statement is true, then it is preferential to have common sense over a high intelligence quotient.

Higher IQ doesn’t mean wisdom, experience and knowing the difference between right and wrong. I suppose it’s more like a high speed computer with tremendous capacity and unless it’s controlled by a system of checks and balances (moral foundation, conscience formation, etc.) it can cause a great deal of harm in the wrong hands. Maybe not the best analogy but applicable.

“Religion, the current theory goes, did not help people survive or reproduce necessarily, but goes along the lines of helping people to be paranoid, Kanazawa said. Assuming that, for example, a noise in the distance is a signal of a threat helped early humans to prepare in case of danger.”

Religious or Atheist question aside, Liberals do not prepare for danger, they whine and cry and insist that danger does not exist, except for evil conservatives. The only “evolutionary” advantage they have ever had is that we have not choked them to death yet, because for the most part, our religion prohibits it.

Who cares? Most Liberals and Atheists have zero common sense, and I can assure you, common sense is a lot more valuable then a high IQ. End of story. Just take a good objective, hard look at Joe Biden, etc. The poor gent may have a great IQ, but he is far, far from being the sharpest knife in the drawer!!! In fact, gently speaking he is a first class buffoon. So much for high IQs.
