“Did you pay cash for the property you operated your business on. Did you buy all the equipment you used in your business by paying cash? Did you pay cash for any cars you used in your business?”

Absolutely!!!

I had a commercial/industrioal construction business.

,...Potential employers are holding their credit histories against them...

Or, if they have a good credit rating, potential employers are holding their credit history in their favor.

Maybe they got into debt because they lost their jobs. Do you really think employers have the right to poke around in your finances? I sure don’t think so.

"In over 50 years of business I never borrowed one cent and did between 1 and 2 million a year."

And I saved enough to buy this snappy outfit.

My wife has/had zero credit cards, no bank account, ran all cash, no car loan.

Terrible credit rating due to her divorce from her abusive scumbag ex-husband from stuff he had before they even got married.

7 years for crap that wasn’t hers to start with to drop off her credit. And some of scumbags stuff ended up on my credit, took me almost a year to dispute it off my credit.

Background checks for security clearances look for evidence of "living beyond your means" i.e. selling secrets for money. They look for drug use as an example of lack of self control and discipline. They look for behaviors that offer leverage for blackmail...mistresses, secretive handling of sexual orientation, gambling, alcholism, lying. Any of those behaviors makes a person unfit to entrust with classified information.

Ordinary, non-classified assignments still involve a level of trust when company proprietary information or money transactions are involved. Employers aren't going to trust an employee with sensitive information without a real thorough check. If that offends you, you shouldn't expect to have access to those kinds of positions. Your compensation and career growth will be limited.

I have no idea what my credit rating is because i refuse to pay $7 to find out.

It can’t be too bad since BofA just raised the credit limit on my Mastercard from $30k to unlimited.

If you were any good you would have been doing 5-10 million.

Employers say such checks give them valuable information about an applicant's honesty and sense of responsibility.

Well, why stop there? Even more valuable information can be obtained by even more strenuous intrusions on an applicant's privacy. What nonsense. When companies are willing to reveal confidential details on their own financial health and outlook, then they'll have the right to stick their noses into the private financial information of employees.

I had an average of 20-25 employees and didn’t want to get any bigger.

I don’t delegate authority to anyone and take full responsibility for all company actions because they are mine personally!

If, as you say, you pay cash for everything, then you would have a low credit rating. Why do you possess an ‘unlimited’ Mastercard Johnny Cash?

I consider paying a credit card bill in full the day it’s received the same as cash.

I first got one when I found out 50 years agio that you can’t rent a car without one.

I needed one for 3 days for my wife when I was repairing her car and couldn’t rent one even ofering to put up the full value of the car in cash.

I also use the card for purchases at FBOS since 5% goes to AOPA’s air safety foundation.

It is so wonderful to hear someone ring their own bell. (And so loudly too!)

It is good to know you have never run into bad luck.

A friend of mine took care of their ailing mother and disabled brother. It cost quite a bit to do this. Their credit doesn't look that great. But my friend would do it again in a heartbeat.

I guess a person like this is someone an employer shouldn't hire, right?

You win stupid post of the day. Credit history has no relation to work. Right now, millions of Americans are getting bad credit due to losing their jobs.

It is not a reflection of their honesty. The practice of checking credit for anything other that applying for credit should be banned, just as lie-detectors were banned.
