Who do you think turned Anne Frank in to the Gestapo? It was the cleaning woman who cleaned the store downstairs. Given that Anne Frank lived in Amsterdam, IIRC, wouldn't the cleaning lady have been Dutch, not German?

Yes, I am not just criticizing Germans, of course. Lots of Jews were killed with the assistance of Poles, Ukrainians, Lithuanians, Dutch etc.
My point is the that Gestapo only numbered a few thousand, and they got almost all of their tips from the average citizen during that era.
Italians deserve some credit during that period, as did the Dutch, in general.
