Methane bubbles in Arctic seas stir warming fears
Yahoo news ^ | 03-04-2010 | Alister Doyle

Large amounts of a powerful greenhouse gas are bubbling up from a long-frozen seabed north of Siberia, raising fears of far bigger leaks that could stoke global warming, scientists said.

It was unclear, however, if the Arctic emissions of methane gas were new or had been going on unnoticed for centuries -- since before the Industrial Revolution of the 18th century led to wide use of fossil fuels that are blamed for climate change.

The study said about 8 million tonnes of methane a year, equivalent to the annual total previously estimated from all of the world's oceans, were seeping from vast stores long trapped under permafrost below the seabed north of Russia.

Maybe it's new or it could have been happening for thousands of years. Whatever the case, drill it, capture it and use it as an energy. It's natural gas after all.

I think people are getting warming-feared out.

There is a reason "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" was a childhood staple once upon a time. Apparently, though, a generation skipped it.

Many years ago I heard Jello Biafra discussing band names. He stated that a good name for a new age group would be “Earth Fart.”

My first thought, too. Drill for it, and that would reduce the leakage. The same goes for the stuff that naturally leaks into the ocean off the California coast.

I am so SICK AND TIRED of the perpetual alarm-ism!!!!!

The Fing planet was a screwed up mess before these clowns, yet somehow keeps keeping on. It will be a screwed up mess long after these clowns are maggot food. Earth will keep being earth until the sun implodes. ALERT! ALERT! WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE! Cancer, stroke, old age, accident, war, famine, heart attack, spontaneous combustion! Everybody gonna die of something.

You can’t pass a law to guarantee your safety no matter how hard you try. You can’t take risk out of the equation. Risk of traffic accident, risk of disease. Risk of the sun imploding. WE ALL WILL DIE!!!!!

Could this be any more insulting? It’s beyond obvious that they’re finally realizing that their CO2 numbers are crap, so they’re just starting over with methane.

"Large amounts of a powerful greenhouse gas are bubbling up from a long-frozen seabed north of Siberia, raising fears of far bigger leaks that could stoke global warming, scientists said. "

I thought we told those underwater SUV's not to be cruising around the long-frozen seabed north of Siberia.

Now those danged carbon-belching, internal combustion engines and have gone and released that danged "greenhouse gas".

Between that and having to bear this big onslaught of hydrogen dioxide, I don't know what we're going to do here in America.

/sarc

Uhhhhhhhh....what "Scientists"? There is not a single scientist on this planet that believes in "global warming" that I would even trust with a "Meet Mr. Wizard" board game, much less our future.

How and when did George Bush get all that gas to the bottom of the Acrtic Ocean???

Actually, rapid release of methane “bubbles” has been going on forever. Some of the myths attached to the Bermuda Triangle might have a scientific basis in methane gas eruptions which when they reach the surface result in a significant drop in buoyancy for the unfortunate ship caught in one.
