Apparently it’s not an aftershock but a whole different earthquake in a completely different section of Chile. Which is even scarier!

According to this article no damage to people nor property:

http://www.cooperativa.cl/onemi—sismo-de-6-3-richter-de-calama-no-se-relaciona-con-terremoto-del-sur/prontus_nots/2010-03-04/200925.html

I’m not so sure about that.

When these earthquakes are done the tension in the grund is lower, so the probability for new earthquakes is lower for a number of years.

Is the depth really 105.1 km?

*When these earthquakes are done* the tension in the grund is lower

You’d think an impending EQ’s energy would be visible as thermal at night from satellite.

If it is the 3D one listed above, I just used the scroll button on my mouse and it zoomed in.

No, I do not think so. The energy source for an earthquake is tectonic strain accumulated by the relative motion of Earth’s tectonic plates which is driven by mantle heat flow in the presence of the earth’s gravitational field. This is not normally shown as temperature increase on the surface, except perhaps for a slight increase in temperature for a while.

Is it just me or are things heating up a bit?

We do seem to have had a lot of earthquakes in a lot of different areas recently. Must be because of the melting glaciers.

:-)

Is there a faultline (like the San Andreas running through California) running through western South America??

Yes, the Democrats call it Bush's fault.
