'The Greeks Must Suffer' [Interview with Greek Crime Writer Petros Markaris]

Things aren't just going bad for the Greeks. They have been shaken to the core and terrified, and they don't know how to go forward from here. The government also deserves some of the blame for this because, for six months, it only discussed the issues and has only now announced its reform measures. This lack of action has had negative effects on the population and also kept the Greeks in the dark about just how bad things really were in the country. Another result is that there is now only a single way out of the crisis: If the country is going to be reformed, the Greeks must suffer.

[...]

Greece is lucky that it still has a minority of active and productive people, who are to thank for the fact that the country didn't go broke earlier. But this minority is at the end of its rope. Either we are leaving, they say, or the EU must take drastic action and change something. The only way Greece is going to work its way out of the crisis is if the EU or the IMF succeed in rigorously monitoring it. In Greece, we need a drastic treatment.

This is the future of ALL SOCIALIST/COMMUNIST countries. ALL are corrupt, squander money on free things that bankrupt the country.

China, Cuba, Venezuela realized that military repression is needed (and gun control) to continue the crimes against the average citizen.

It is relatively easy for Communism to succeed. A small minority of activists dream up a crisis or grievance and demonstrate against them, making a big issue of them. At the same time their cohorts in government promise the population all sorts of freebies. The media become their propaganda arm and before you know it they are in charge.

Communism is an awful economic system and before long everyone is broke but equality reigns - all are equally miserable.

IMHO, that statement covers just about covers all countries today....UK, US, France.....the glory days of runaway liberalism, are over, the bills must be paid....

Germany is the model. Nazi Germany. Contry whipsawed between leftist socialism and corporate socialism. Hitler was a fascist. A corporate socialist. Fascism is large corporation and a strong leftist welfare state joined hand in had.

Does the fundamentals of that Germany, of a huge leftist welfare state, influential leftist socialists and a strong, bailout, subsidize politically dependent corporations sound familiar? Bueller? Anyone?
