Cash-Strapped States Delay Paying Income-Tax Refunds
Yahoo ^ | 3-5-10 | cnbc

This year, more Americans and businesses may be asking: Where's my tax refund?

That's because cash-strapped states such as North Carolina, Alabama and Hawaii have been forced to slow down issuing income tax refunds to individuals and businesses because of a lack of funds in their budget.

Kansas has hinted that a delay might be possible, and processing paper refunds in Iowa has slowed because the state doesn't haven't enough employees to get them processed faster.

Another state, New York, is still considering whether they'll follow the likes of Hawaii and delay refund payments.

I lived in Texas 17 years....my property taxes on my house went from $600 to $1800 to $3600 to $4800 dollars in 8 years in Ft. Worth.

Be glad that you didn't live in Ohio. I paid $4500 in property taxes in 2007, plus $4000 in state income tax, plus a sales tax that ranged from 6.5% in my county to 7.75% for the county next door (Cuyahoga County). All that money for lousy roads and a corrupt state government.

I'm back in Tennessee now.

they can’t arrest us all.

They already have - it's just that the prison is really large, covering all 50 states.

That, incredibly, is what they taught us in first year economics back in the 70s. Kinda raised my hackles, too, at the time.

Call VS and complain and ask for a refund.

The State of New Mexico owes me $1,700 from last year.

Turbo Tax says I owe them $2,100 this year.

I'm sending in a voucher which says I will pay them their $2,100 when they pay me my $1,700.

Tar, feathers, rope and guillotines, are apparently the only things that are going to put a stop to this.

You forgot those cute little machines that accelerate tiny chunks of metal to supersonic velocities. / s

I never pay in more than I owe on my taxes. I put money in savings during the year, then pay the bill on April 15.

Not surprising. Oddly enough, my state refund has been held up for “up to six weeks” for a review. Frickin’ thieves...

I went through that once. When the check finally came, it included interest.

Hawaii has started charging tourists $3 at the Pali Lookout-a parking lot with a great view of the Windward side of Oahu. Local residents are not charged this fee. Hawaii is planning to expand this policy to other parks and destination areas. This is clear discrimination against the tourists.
This policy is nickel and diming their main economic engine-tourists.
The state is run by a bunch of lolos ( stupid in Hawaiian).

Did you know that it is possible to get an "advance" Earned Income Tax Credit (a federal "tax refund" to people who don't pay income taxes)?

I did not know this until recently.

“Should be in “breaking news” sidebar, IMO. Next year at this time, it won’t just be three states. It will be those states, plus the other 54.”

This will be a sad state of affairs for a nation such as ours that has accomplished great feats like “inventing the automobile”. :-)

Will we have the leader that will “get on the TV like FDR did in 1929” and directly lead the American people during times of crisis? :-)

What will these states do when emergencies such as the “10k people dying from a Kansas tornado” happen? Where will we then derive funding? :-)

Will Obama liberate us like his Uncle liberated Auschwitz??? :-)
