Republican Senate hopeful Carly Fiorina touts her business resume, particularly her years as chief executive of Hewlett-Packard, as the reason GOP voters should nominate her to face Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer.
But this morning, an heir to one of the companys founders issued a slashing rebuttal, arguing that Fiorina nearly drove the technology firm into the ground.
I know a little bit about Carly Fiorina, having watched her almost destroy the company my grandfather founded, wrote Arianna Packard, the granddaughter of David Packard, in a letter posted on www.redstate.com.
Fiorina is in a tough three-way GOP race to take on Sen. Barbara Boxer. Her tenure at Hewlett-Packard was controversial, with Portfolio magazine crowning her one of the 20 worst American chief executives of all time.
Arianna Packard is the daughter of David Woodley Packard, who fought Fiorina when she engineered the merger of Hewlett-Packard and Compaq, a decision that partly led to her firing by the board of directors in 2005. She is also a supporter of and donor to one of Fiorinas rivals, Orange County Assemblyman Chuck DeVore.
Her letter is a response to one penned by Fiorina backers Sens. James Inhofe, Tom Coburn and Jon Kyl. The three senators wrote, We are proud to endorse her as a fellow conservative who has real-world business experience and the guts and moxie to take on Barbara Boxer and win. Carly is not a Washington insider. She is a proven business leader who understands the economy and advocates a strong national defense.
Packard slammed their position, arguing that Fiorina is a failed businesswoman.
allow me to disillusion you of a few of your stated reasons for supporting her, she wrote.

I think that would be a good reason not to nominate her.
Oh gods worst computers ever built. They were then what dell is now.
Very true, but she's still not quite as dumb as Barbara Boxer. Don't you think that's a winning slogan? < / sarcasm >
Agilent, HP, Avago, Compac...........that's her "legacy"............
Agreed.
Michael Bloomberg is proof that somebody that runs a business doesn’t mean they’re able to run a government at any level.
Bloomberg LP is worth $6 billion? That’s nice, NYC is totally broke and the NYPD budget is over $3 billion last I read. There’s a problem when the budget for the NYPD is more than some countries’ military budgets.
I remember some scandal involving her. I can’t remember it though.
Having worked at HP when she became CEO.. I will have to say that there’s no way in hell I would vote for her.
I used to work for Compaq just before the merger and hell yes she ran the company into the ground....
Fiorina is a prime example of what’s wrong with American politics. She was a terrible CEO, and ran a great company into the ground.
Now she wants to be part of running a once great country into the ground. Conservative or not, she’s incompetent to run anything bigger than a corner store.
I think she tapped the phones of her boards of directors.
She’s an incompetent sleazeball.
As Arianna Packard says, most business analysts, as well as tens for thousands of HP employees, view Fiorina as a total business failure. I urge everyone to read what HP employees and alumni have to say about Carly Fiorina at http://www.carly-fiorina.com"
HP people are welcome to post their own criticisms of Carly.

"I worked at HP during the Fiorina years and what Adrianna Packard states is true. All Carly cared about was herself. She made a ton of $$$ on the Compaq merger while she was laying off tens of thousands of employees world-wide plus she also bought a new corporate jet while laying off employees. You can see where she would head if she got elected to the Senate!!!!!"
IMHO: "a Flawed Candidate.No Endorsement.
You're probably thinking Packard Bell.
I knew this was coming
“Fiorina is a prime example of whats wrong with American politics. She was a terrible CEO, and ran a great company into the ground.”
On the other hand, Corzine was a great CEO and ran NJ to the ground.
yeah, she’s a real winner huh? I can understand the hype around Meg Whitman but Fiorina???
Then, she might just fit in perfectly in the US Senate. Just sayin'...
I'd rather have DeVore. I think he won't fit in as well, which is what I'm looking for.
