Kyle Smith: "Green Zone" Is The Most Vile Anti-American Propaganda Ever Released By A Major Studio
Ace of Spades ^ | March 9, 2010 | Ace

Posted on 03/09/2010 6:15:31 PM PST by retrogo

The whole WMD thing in Iraq? Faked, in this leftist fantasia's telling.

Despite being guilty of gross insubordination, lying to his superiors and concealing important evidence from them (a notebook containing the addresses of Saddam's top officers), [Matt Damon's character] is the hero of the film.

Others we're supposed to cheer for include Sunni officers who shoot down helicopters carrying American soldiers sent to assassinate them. Those death squads are acting at the behest of a duplicitous Pentagon intelligence mandarin (Greg Kinnear) who has single-handedly drummed up a fake casus belli.

Before the war, he interviewed a general of Saddam's who told him pointedly that there were no WMDs in Iraq after 1991 but that he'd be willing to work with the Americans after Saddam was deposed. The Kinnear figure then lied to a gullible reporter (Amy Ryan) that he had a rock-solid source, "Magellan," who had given him proof of WMDs in Iraq.

Such is this movie's eagerness to turn reality upside down that, although the Ryan character is obviously based on Judith Miller of The New York Times, the reporter is said to work for the Wall Street Journal. In full-on liberal daydream mode, Damon and his friends can pretend their favorite lefty paper is untainted by flawed reporting.

...

It's one thing to make a fantasy film laced with snarky jibes at the United States and its military. It's of another order entirely for an American studio (Universal, a unit of GE) to perpetrate, during an ongoing war, such vicious anti-American lies disguised as cheap entertainment.

"Green Zone" tells US troops that all of their efforts have been based on a deliberate deception. Worse, it blames the insurgency that has killed so many of our fighting men and women on US treachery.

Movies like "In the Valley of Elah," "Rendition" and "Redacted" have shown US forces doing nasty things -- but none went anywhere near as far as this picture in suggesting original sin corrupted the entire Iraq war and that American officials are more blameworthy than the insurgents for the most violent years. "Green Zone" isn't cinema. It's slander. It will go down in history as one of the most egregiously anti-American movies ever released by a major studio.

Wow.

Matt Damon really needs to have his career taken away.

For my money, Matt Damon is the most vile, most evil POS from Hollywood I have ever seen. Compared to him, “Hanoi” Jane Jane Fonda look like a nun. Every single movie I have seen from Matt Damon has been viciously anti-American. I am open to the belief that Matt Damon is really insane.

Problem is, "W" did fake the WMD thing. He wanted at Iraq any way he could. The libs have him on that one. The truth was in some ways was a relative thing for Mr. Bush.

George W. Bush - a mixed bag if there ever was one.

Morally conservative and tough on defensive issues. He put the Islamoterroists back on their heels and they still haven't recovered (Give Obama time...). He also nominated some good SCOTUS Justices. He also pushed for lower taxes.

However, paradoxically, he regularly dissed the Constitution with fair distain and grew government and spending to historic heights. Politically and economically, he was a liberal, thinking government was the answer.

His weaknesses will always be exploited by the leftist idiots who will ignore the fact that he set the terrorists back on their heels.

Nonsense.
Everyone from Bill Clinton, to Algore to Harry Redid all swore that Saddam had WMD’s even before Bush took power. We have these people on tape declaring that Saddam had WMD’s.
Heck the CIA themselves assured Bush that Saddam had WMD’s.
The fact that no WMD’s were found, doesn't change those facts, nor is it due to any “fakery” by Bush.

Bush had no reason to believe there were WMD's, and couldn't even very well define what he allegedly thought Iraq had. It was a sham. By the time he was ready with his invasion plans, he really didn't care what intelligence, conflicting or not, was telling him.

It seems he wanted to finish what his dad started by getting Saddam, and in some convoluted way, fight the war on terrorists over there. Jihad was not big in Iraq under Saddam because he was not a religious zealot, only a ruthless political dictator.

That is not a lie.

The fact that no WMD’s were found, doesn't change those facts, nor is it due to any “fakery” by Bush.

Given the broad certainty concerning WMDs leading into the war and the fact that none were found should lead to the question: What happened to them?

Recall that the UN actually had an extensive inventory of post Gulf War I chemical weapons -- Sarin, anthrax, botulism, West Nile fever, etc -- that were never accounted for.

Recall also that 750 tons of yellowcake were found, along with tons of precursor materials associated with biological and chemical warfare. Some artillery shells with chemical warheads were exposed. Centrifuge parts were dug up from a scientist's rose garden.

Obviously, there was evidence of preparation to produce WMD. And there was a history of having done so. Was intent as far as it went? Or were significant quantities of new WMD actually produced? If so, what happened to them?

Aren't these questions which deserve answers?

The fact that no WMD’s were found,

Even this assertion is no fact - it's a lie. There were WMD's found, especially in the chemical weapon category, as well as ample evidence and constituent components for biological and nuclear weapon programs which had been put in stasis and hidden due to the impending invasion, but could be quickly and easily reactivated had Saddam's regime survived.

One solution for avoiding acknowledging the WMD's which were found was quite simple. They were simply redefined or re-categorized away. When large amounts weren't found, the goal posts were moved and the story became that there were no "stockpiles" found. When large, heavily fortified and camouflaged warehouses on military bases full of 55 gallon drums containing deadly neurotoxins were found, they story was that these were insecticides for agricultural use.

These things were all covered here on Free Republic and in the alternative media, but were effectively silenced in the MSM.

Problem is, "W" did fake the WMD thing. He wanted at Iraq any way he could.

For that statement alone, you are an idiot.

I guess you forgot about all the years between the Gulf War and 2001, when Saddam was at war with us, constantly trying to shoot down our planes (while Clinton was groping and getting serviced and generally ignoring Iraq). Financing Palestinian suicide bombers, not to mention his gassing of the Kurds.

Bush was operating under the assumption that every other countries intelligence were operating under...that is, Saddam had WMD's before, and since he wasn't big on following treaties he himself signed, he probably still had some.

Go tell your BS to people who are as equally gnatwitted as you.

BS.

Intel dating back to the mid 90s under Clinton and from countries all over the world indicated an active WND strategy. More importantly, Saddam refused to comply with the UN rules 19 or so times. He had benign guys like ‘chemical ali’ on staff.

Yes, Bush just made it up for no reason. Jeez.

You can’t dismiss or ignore Saddam’s behavior, either. He could have stopped everything in its tracks by complying with any of the dozens of UN resolutions, allowing inspectors free rein, and proclaiming that he had nothing to hide. Instead, he kicked the inspectors out (after making a joke of them for years) and acted like a man with everything to hide. And I am mistaken, or weren’t there photographs of convoys of trucks leaving Iraq and heading for Syria? I could have sworn there were, and that it was never determined what the convoys were carrying.

Evidence of these WMD's had pretty much disappeared by the time W was ready to invade Iraq. You go back over what happened step by step, and you see that at some point before the invasion, it didn't matter anymore whether or not there were WMD's. The WMD was a non-issue. Bush wanted to go after Iraq for whatever reason - finish what his dad didn't by getting Saddam or use it as a way to show how we're going to fight terrorism. It was convoluted from the start, but it was never really about WMD's.

What's nonsense was the convoluted genesis of our invasion into Iraq.

George Bush did not fake the WMD thing, no matter what you think you know, what you read. There is no conclusive evidence that he faked anything. That sort of casual overstatemnt of fact, is all to common nowadays. Again, I am sure you have something that you call evidence, and there the argument would start, but fact is. There is no evidence that George Bush faked the WMD thing. None. Had there been he would have been impeached. Period. He would be prosecuted NOW, if that were true. So, please lets be real.
