Obama promised $2,500 health care savings; CBO says plan is $2,300 price increase
Washington Examiner ^ | 3/10/10 | Mark Hemingway

From a fact sheet on Obama's campaign website (PDF link):

Obama’s plan will save a typical family up to $2,500 on premiums by bringing the health care system into the 21st century: cutting waste, improving technology, expanding coverage to all Americans, and paying for some high-cost cases.

However, the CBO just produced this analysis of the senate health care bill (another PDF link) which concludes that the Senate health care bill will raise the average family's health care premiums by $2,300.

Even Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., is admitting that health care preminums aren't about to go down just because health care reform is passed:

“Anyone who would stand before you and say ‘well, if you pass health care reform next year’s health care premiums are going down,’ I don’t think is telling the truth. I think it is likely they would go up.”

The good news is that 96% of Americans won’t see a tax increase.

Not directly, perhaps...they'll just see the same in increased costs.

Obama and his socialism disgusts me. I shouldn’t have to pay more so that those who offer no contribution to society but to take from me, get a free ride. As it stands now, even if a person is insured, they have to pay for part of the services and pay the premiums. I take it that the leeches will get free everything. Hell of a deal.

What a freaking joke. Obama should be impeached for beng a liar and a thief.

$2,500/savings estimated to be $2,300/additional cost. Well within the 100% chance of budget error. For dems this is good.

“Obama should be impeached for beng a liar and a thief.”

So what, Clinton was found guilty but he did not step down. Only Republicans and those with the last name of Nixon should be forced to leave.

Marxism Rules!

The numbers are way off. I currently contribute $5K pre-tax to my medical insurance. My employer contributes $8k. Total premium to the insurance company for the coverage is $13K. Obama wants the employer contribution to be taxable income. He also wants the employee contribution to be after tax. My fed+state+FICA+medicare sucks 48% of each dollar earned. To send a net $13K to my my healthcare insurer with after tax dollars I have to earn $13K/.48 = $27K gross. Round it to $26K gross, divide by 26 bi-weekly paychecks. That's $1,000 gross income per paycheck to maintain the same coverage as I have today. That's an increase from $5K from my gross income to $27K of my income. A 500% increase. In practical terms, my $208 pre-tax contribution reduces my take home by $100 per paycheck. It decreases my AGI by $5400. The new Obama model increases my AGI and extracts another $800 gross per paycheck. A net loss of $500 per paycheck. Great plan Comrade Obama.

why no one runs the basic numbers is beyond me.

310m people in the US
140m file taxes
bottom 50% pay < 3% of all taxes (call it 0)
70m pay all taxes

they are going to place a 6.1% tax on taxpayers... the 70m

assume the average yearly salary of the top 50% to be $100k

healthcare tax revenue per taxpayer: $6,100/yr

total healthcare tax revenue: $427 billion

according to kaiseredu.org, yearly healthcare expenditures in the US exceed $2.3 trillion yearly

they will be tacking $2 trillion or more per year on the debt

of course, since they will need to find ways of saving money... they will DEMAND people limit their dangerous activities.... like driving, boating, sports... even having children

quality

Myrddin, if it passes, drop all your health insurance and use cash for basic medical treatment. You will be charged a $750 annual penalty for not carrying health insurance by the Feds. Should you ever become castastrophically ill, then join the Fedzilla Insurance Inc. that day and receive full coverage. Basically, one of the failures of this plan is you always have catastrophic coverage and it costs you $750/year. Don’t know your annual medical expenses, but if it is less than $13K per year, then you would be smart to follow my advise. This one big assed loophole in the bill and I doubt they will close it given current politics. So everyone will have catastrophic health insurance, but you only need to sign up for when you actually need. Sweet.

We’ve already seen tax increases, and we don’t even make a 1/4th of the $250 cap.

These toll free arrangements were set up by Obamuniust organizations to support (pause for sticking out tongue) “health” “care” “reform.” Use them! After all, they are free! . At the first number you must wait through a brief Obamunist tape recording. Just hang on and when the recording is over, you will get the Capitol operator. Just ask for your Rep or Senator’s office. Then you will either talk to an aide or have the chance to leave a message for him/her to vote NO on the health care bill.

When you use the second number and the Capitol operator comes on, just ask for your Rep or Senator’s office
