President Barack Obama denounced waste, inefficiency and downright fraud in the government's health care system on Wednesday as he sought to rally public support for his revamped overhaul plan. "Improper payments cost taxpayers almost $100 billion last year alone," Obama said at a rally in this St. Louis suburb.
He said such payments amounted to more than is spent on the Education Department and the Small Business Administration combined, and that if there was a "Department of Improper Payments" it would be "one of the largest agencies in the government."
Obama pressed Congress to act on the health care overhaul measure without further delay.
"I believe that Congress owes the American people a final up or down vote on health care reform. The time for talk is over. It's time to vote," he said, his voice rising.
The White House wants Congress to act on the legislation by March 18, when the president leaves on a trip to Indonesia and Australia, a timetable that may be hard for Congress to meet.
"What we're proposing is a common sense approach to protecting you from insurance company abuses and saving you money," Obama said in the campaign-style appearance, his second health care speech outside Washington in a week, with another one scheduled in Ohio on Monday.
Obama cited abuses in the government-run Medicare and Medicaid and in other federal health programs, noting "payments sent to the wrong person, sent for the wrong reason, sent in the wrong amount."
Sometimes "they're innocent errors" and other times deliberate fraud "by scam artists and fly-by-night" operators, Obama said.

His administration should already know about fraud and waste. The census for example. Waste? Huge sums of money to send out letters to everyone telling them the census is coming. Fraud? Well, the census is designed to count all the illegals...that is, more voters for the Dems. And who knows what other purpose the census information will be used for?

When I watched his 'health summit' last week and not having his teleprompters, he seemed to be trying to impress himself with his wisdom, rather than trying to get anything done.

Well, then, the solution is obvious. Get rid of the Dept. of Education and the Small Business Administration--for starters.
I was heading out my gate today and an elderly white male in his tiny pickup truck pulled into my drive blocking my exit. WTF? I thought he was going to ask for direstions. But no he handed me the census envlope addressed to my residence.
Why not mail the things out? Save a lot of money!
So we need a new law to clean up waste and fraud in current government programs. Gee, why didn’t I think of that?
