Harry Reid's wife, daughter injured in accident

WASHINGTON (AP) ― Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's wife and daughter are recovering in a Washington-area hospital after a car accident.

A spokesman for Reid says the majority leader's wife, Landra, and their daughter, Lana, were injured Thursday when their vehicle was rear-ended. Reid left the Senate for the hospital. The spokesman says details are unclear.

Not life threatening, but extremely painful I'm sure. Notwithstanding my opinions of Senator Reid, I'm praying for their recovery.

It will be a long recovery.

I wouldn’t wish this kind of trouble on my worst enemy. Rear-ended by a semi on I-95. It’s a very dangerous road.

Right now they are probably both heavily sedated and don’t know or care if Harry is there or not.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s wife and daughter were in a serious car accident Thursday afternoon on Interstate 95 in Fairfax County, and police said they are being treated at an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Police said the Reids’ van was rear-ended and crushed by a fully loaded tractor-trailer while driving in heavy traffic.

Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said Landra G. Reid, 69, and Lana Reid-Barringer, 48, of McLean, were driving northbound on I-95 at about 1:10 p.m. in a 2005 Honda Odyssey van in stop-and-go traffic when Reid-Barringer began to stop for traffic ahead of her. A tractor-trailer loaded with rolls of plastic behind her did not stop and pushed the van into another car.

That car in turn hit a third car.

Geller said the van was crushed on both ends.
