The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation sent seven agents to Vonore Thursday to interview the Police Department staff concerning an investigation of former officers.
TBI spokesperson Kristin Helm stated in an e-mail Friday, "A couple months ago TBI was notified about some possible improper misconduct involving an officer(s) or former officer(s) at the police department in Vonore. The district attorney general requested us to investigate. That investigation is ongoing, we have several agents who conducted interview in Vonore yesterday morning. At this time, I can't confirm any specific individuals who may or may not be involved or get into allegations." On Friday, Mayor Larry Summey said the investigation stems from two or more officers who are no longer employed by the town.
"Really about what, I can't say," Summey said. He said the investigation stems from something that happened prior to him taking office in October. Summey said seven TBI agents interviewed interim Police Chief Mack Williams and all the current officers, except two who were hired after the new administration took office.
Summey was elected to the mayor's office in September and at the end of October hired a new police chief, Mike Myers, who resigned last month. He said Myers was not part of the investigation. "I'm not being evasive," he said. "I don't want to tell you something I don't know."

Well, seeing the level of police corruption and misconduct in Tennessee is what opened my eyes and prompted me to start looking at other states, attempting to quantify the level of corruption here in Tennessee. For a state of 6 million people, it ranks up there in terms of incidents of corruption with states twice its size.

Well, I was born and raised in Nashville and traveled all over the state during my 49 years there and all I can say is ‘Twas ever thus’.

Prison guards injured in fights at Morgan County Correctional Complex

Latest HeadlinesPrison guards injured in fights at Morgan County Correctional (WATE) — Five prison officers were injured Friday in two separate fights at the Morgan County Correctional Complex.
The fights broke out around 2:00 p.m., Tennessee Dept. of Corrections spokesperson Dorinda Carter said.
One fight happened in the recreation yard. The other occurred inside a housing unit.
The guards were treated at a local hospital and released.
Carter said the fights are still under investigation and the prison is on lockdown.
Prison officials hope to lift the lockdown Saturday, but the prisoners involved in the fight will remain on lockdown until the investigation is complete.
Prisoners involved in the fights will face disciplinary action, Carter said, but it's too soon to tell if they will face criminal charges.

maybe you should get ur stories straight, NOT ALL THE GUARDS HAVE BEEN RELEASED FROM THE HOSPITAL...and 2nd of all my husband works there and said it never went into the yard it was in the gym...prayers go out to the guards who were injured and the ones who had to be put on lockdown also...
It seems police and guard work is quite dangerous
Here I was, already retired from the military, and comfortable with the authority I was given... but many of the really young guys were experiencing "authority" for the first time. They were VERY anxious to use it. Minor incidents were blown out of proportion so that these guys could justify manhandling the prisoners. I worked alone in a Pod with 36 inmates without problems, except when I had to deal with problems caused during an earlier shift. I realized what was going on in short order, and found another line of work. Only a month or so after I left, several of my former coworkers were involved in the death of an inmate during a "scuffle".
My experience is that to SOME degree, the job is as dangerous as an individual makes it.
