It reminded the bishops that the result of someone going to a teacher or a police officer or a social worker or even to a parent with an allegation of sexual abuse against a priest would be excommunication for the accuser.

This is what is so unbelievable. The second there is an allegation the police should be called. It's the cover up that makes this so much worse.
