House Democratic leaders still do not have enough votes to pass health care reform, the chamber's top vote counter said, even though the administration is aiming to have the bill passed this week.
The reality check came from Rep. James Clyburn, the House Democratic whip.
"No, we don't have them as of this morning, but we've been working this thing all weekend," Clyburn, D-S.C., said.
But despite the challenge of corralling wavering Democrats, Clyburn joined with other Democratic officials in saying he was confident the measure would pass, echoing comments from Speaker Nancy Pelosi Saturday.
Democratic leaders want the House to pass the Senate-approved version of the bill, before moving on to a package of changes. That package, which is already under consideration, would be taken up in the Senate as a "reconciliation" bill, meaning the Senate would be able to approve it with just 51 votes -- Democrats turned to the legislative tactic after Republican Scott Brown won the Massachusetts Senate election in January, breaking the party's 60-vote filibuster-proof majority.

Just hang on and when the recording is over, you will get the Capitol operator. Just ask for your Rep or Senator’s office. Then you will either talk to an aid or have the chance to leave a message for him/her to vote NO on the health care bill.
When you use the second number and the Capitol operator comes on, just ask for your Rep or Senator’s office. Every time I use this number I get the Rep or Senator’s answer machine, so it may be set up that way all the time...to go to their answer machine. Either way you can leave a message to vote NO on the health care bill!

I see two options for the Dems... and I don’t think they know which they’ll choose to use.
1) pass the senate’s bill, have 0bama sign it, then to reconciliation to change it to make the House happy.
but... i don’t think they’ll be able to change it w/ reconcilation b/c the senate doesn’t want to change it and repubs don’t want them to use reconciliation and blow up the senate - hell dems don’t want to let loose the reconcilation monster b/c they’ll be minority real soon. So, I don’t think the bill will be changed if the house passes it.
2) the slaugher thing - this is the scariest IMO b/c it means the dems and 0bama are actually willing to simply “take over” the country. This is 0bama’s Chavez move and must be met with extreme opposition - like asking the military to take him and/or pelosi/ried into custody.
Nothing good is going to happen this week. Either the bill doesn’t pass and they try the slaughter take-over or the bill passes and we’re stuck w/ the senate bill.
I suppose we could campaign on overturning it - and we’d get lots and lots of non-dems elected ... but would we overturn it?

Once there is a bill that bambi signs, that will be it. No reconciliation or anything else. No more talk about it, just more taxes for us and loss of our own healthcare system as we know it. We are stuck with it and then he’ll move on to cram an immigration bill down our throats.
Keep the pressure on these Dims. Don’t let up a nanosecond. Not until the vote happens. I won’t even believe Stupak until he votes. This should be a lesson however. No matter how conservative a blue dog sounds on the campaign trail, when push comes to shove they will vote with their party. Party first, principles second.
Don’t forget Gibbs famous line - by next Sunday Obamacare will be the law of the land.
At this point they do not have a pot to p*ss in.
They are trying to intimidate us into letting them pass this thing. At this point it will not pass. This is going down.
The only thing they are praying for is that we can be intimidated into rolling over.
If we can beat this thing back, government healthcare will likely be dead for the forseeable future. Never again will the stars align for Democrats in this fashion. The clock is running out....
