Land of the Mostly Free

For the past 16 years, the Heritage Foundation and the Wall Street Journal have co-published an annual Index of Economic Freedom, which awards every nation an "economic freedom" score based on 10 measurements of economic openness: Business Freedom, Trade Freedom, Fiscal Freedom, Government Spending, Monetary Freedom, Investment Freedom, Financial Freedom, Property Rights, Freedom from Corruption, and Labor Freedom.

The big news about the recently published 2010 Index of Economic Freedom is that, for the first time, the United States' ranking has slipped from "Free" to "Mostly Free."

As the Index notes: "The U.S. government's interventionist responses to the financial and economic crisis that began in 2008 have significantly undermined economic freedom and long-term prospects for economic growth. Economic freedom has declined in seven of the 10 categories measured in the Index."

While the Index acknowledges that Bush administration policies played a role in lowering the U.S. ranking, it places most of the blame on the Obama administration:

If one were to check the voting record of every individual receiving a pay check from any level of government would we be shocked to find that the only department voting 'conservatively' would be the department of defense...?

The monster has too many tentacles and it is time for a bit of scalpeling. Outside of its core responsibilities as prescribed for in the Constitution, the other 'tentacles' produce nothing but misery and despair...albeit, socialism disguising as compassion.

I’d like to see the feds run a court system and provide for national defense. That’s pretty much it. The federal budget should be cut by more than 50%. Much more.

Part of the answer, I think, is that Obama conducted a brilliantly deceptive election campaign, pretending to be a moderate when he was anything but.

Statements like this revives the 'rage' that I've been trying to suppress since the election. When the population is so stupid as to elect someone this vile, I revert back to the 'you deserve everything that's coming' mindset. If those voters had educated themselves with just a bit of research they might have seen this marxist for what he is. Instead, all they did was have their ears 'tickled'. And this doesn't exclude the people who sat out the election on their dumbass excuse of: 'they just couldn't bring themselves to vote for McCain'. They all do indeed Deserve everything happening to them, their families and their jobs but the problem with that: they took all of us down the drain with their stupidity.

From an email I received last week. Also posted on here under Hannity's thread.

Great quote:

The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the presidency. It will be easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to an electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails us. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The republic can survive a Barack Obama. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president.” -- Author Unknown

The problem with this quote is the statement that "The Republic can survive a Barack Obama"...I'm not sure we can or will.

I’m not sure how anyone gets the ideal that Obama was a “moderate.” It was always obvious to me that he was a extreme “Progressive” (aka Commie-Pinko).

Of course, McQueeg was only a little better.

There are two things the FED is supposed to do according to the Constitution: secure the borders, and provide for the national defense. Can anyone say “amnesty”, or hows about “EMP”?

Well you did your homework and without a doubt, in short order, found him to be a no - good marxist.

McCain is a rino and a no good...however, I would bet my life, that he would have NEVER packed the WH with Radical communists. And the absolute bright spot on that ticket of course was Palin.

Now everyone is squealing like stucked pigs and my anger and resentment has resurfaced in spades.

It’s an absolute disgrace what is happening.

No doubt there was fraud. We watched Minnesota, through absolute fraud, seat that moron Al Franken. With the National election though, I’m not sure if the fraud was overwhelming enough to throw the election.

Yes, it’s possible. We weren’t watching for it. Remember the Black Panthers who were threatening voters? They actually were not prosecuted for that. ACORN is now organized under many different names. And don’t forget that Zero worked for them.

Well, some folks say the problem is Obama. Others say it is the parasites and imbeciles that elected him.

Personally, even though I’m a “Church and Republic” conservative (and NOT a libertarian) I am beginning to think that the issue is a Federal Government so rich and so powerful that control of it allows the controlling parties to do as they please to the entire nation...
