Mexico drug war: A cancer spreading to U.S.
World Net Daily ^ | 3/16/10 | Chelsea Schilling

Posted on 03/16/2010 12:04:55 PM PDT by antidemoncrat

Bodies are piling up along U.S.-Mexico border towns as two formerly allied drug gangs engage in open combat in Mexico's streets within miles of U.S. cities – but the cartels' empires are hardly limited to the south side of the border.

Neither party has done a thing to secure that border. It's probably just a matter of time until terrorists bring something really bad here. Could this cancer be any worse than the Progressive cancer already infecting this Republic?

Not even amnesty will solve this problem. Good thing I’m not in charge, I could solve this problem.

Mexico’s government is not able to provide security for law-abiding citizens and criminals there are so brazen that they openly recruit using banners with telephone numbers. The press has been bought off and/or intimidated from even telling us what’s going on there.

Mexico is a hair away from Somalia status.

We must therefore seal off the border and let them stew in their own juices as we deprive them of their sanctuary, income — and the political/economic safety valve we have been providing for years by tolerating illegal immigration.

Fortunately, in the last year our new leader has prepared us for ‘life in the third world’. A few finishing touches and this very first American African leader will have us Congoized.

The Mexican government is impotent. Criminals are running the show, and they are bringing it to America.

I don’t even know why they call it a drug war anymore. This is about power and control of shipping access now.

Good thing it’s illegal to own firearms in Mexico, things might get bad there if citizens owned guns.

I don't think drug cartels in Mexico want to annoy the USA too much, or the US people might begin boycotting their product. For that reason I don't ever expect a nuclear bomb or a building bomb over here from the likes of the Zetas. But the porous border is an acknowledged problem for other, less customer sensitive kinds of terrorism.

The Zetas are interested in money. So what if they don’t want to build a nuke, how does that help us? They will take money from someone that has, and escort them over the border for a (not so) modest fee.

I will tell you that at a certain point, if neither the US nor the government of Texas does something about this, there will be a reaction from the people of Texas that will give half of DC a heart attack.

Id like to see if some of the libertarian dope heads will chime in on this thread. Their perspective should be interesting. Drug use isnt only about the dope head but all the crimes he commits/enables to feed his habit. That ranges from stealing to enriching the gangs who supply and move it. Please explain again why drug use shouldn’t be controlled....

If they are smart they will betray any militant Moose that tries to get in to the US that way. An incident precipitated by such would really put the hurt on their business.

I’ve been saying for quite a while that if the US gummit was dead serious about this it would buy time on all networks for “public interest” messages featuring killing scenes similar to those in “Traffic” and making it clear that “have a habit? this is what it is feeding. Call xxx-xxx-xxxx for confidential help.”

Short of this I tend to side with the libertarians IF the drug can be had without feeding the cartels and IF a competent physician is willing to take responsibility for the administration of the drug and any ill consequences.

Milton Friedman warned of this many years ago. Here is an excerpt from his 1989 "Open Letter to Bill Bennett":

"You are not mistaken in believing that the majority of the public share your concerns. In short, you are not mistaken in the end you seek to achieve. Your mistake is failing to recognize that the very measures you favor are a major source of the evils you deplore. Of course the problem is demand, but it is not only demand, it is demand that must operate through repressed and illegal channels.

Illegality creates obscene profits that finance the murderous tactics of the drug lords; illegality leads to the corruption of law enforcement officials; illegality monopolizes the efforts of honest law forces so that they are starved for resources to fight the simpler crimes of robbery, theft and assault.

Drugs are a tragedy for addicts. But criminalizing their use converts that tragedy into a disaster for society, for users and non-users alike. Our experience with the prohibition of drugs is a replay of our experience with the prohibition of alcoholic beverages.

The problem with that is neither the Dems or Republicans want to seal the border.

If they give amnesty to the 10 to 20 million illegals here now, 20 million more will be here next year.
