The liberal media watchdog group Media Matters is fuming over CNN’s hiring of conservative RedState blogger Erick Erickson.
In a document provided POLITICO that Media Matters plans to post on its blog Tuesday, the group accuses Erickson of having a “long history of incendiary, sexist and racially charged statements.”
“If you need any further proof that the liberal media bias is a myth, CNN just hired someone who called David Souter a goat——ing child molester,” Media Matters Vice President of Research and Communication Ari Rabin-Havt told POLITICO.
The document includes many other profane Erickson statements, including the vulgar phrase highlighted about the former Supreme Court justice by Rabin-Havt.
The document cites 10 statements by the RedState founder that Media Matters says are guilty of invoking violence against progressives or are sexist or racist.
Among Erickson’s controversial comments is his assertion the Republican Scott Brown won the Massachusetts Senate race because the late Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.) wanted to die a “martyr for the cause” of health care.
Additionally, the liberal group points out that Erickson defended Fox News host Glenn Beck’s calling President Barack Obama a “racist” and declared that first lady Michelle Obama was a “Marxist harpy wife.”
Noting the Nobel Peace Prize won by the president, Erickson wrote on RedState: “I did not realize the Nobel Peace Prize had an affirmative action quota.”
In a statement, CNN Political Director Sam Feist called Erickson a “perfect fit” for the network’s new show “John King USA” that debuts Monday.
“Not only is he an agenda-setter whose words are closely watched in Washington but as a person who still lives in small-town America, Erick is in touch with the very people John hopes to reach,” Feist said. “With Erick’s exceptional knowledge of politics as well as his role as a conservative opinion leader, he will add an important voice to CNN’s ideologically diverse group of political contributors.”
Erickson explained on RedState that CNN “made an offer I couldn’t refuse.”
“I’m very excited by the opportunity,” he wrote. “Thanks for the prayers and well wishes. This is the path God put me on, and it was totally unexpected, but I go where the good Lord leads.”

IIRC, he dug up some dirt on the Clintons for the American Spectator in the early 1990s. Some years after that, I'm not sure exactly, he came out of the closet and went over to the dark side.
Brock likes goats?
I’d believe that CNN was looking for intellectual diversity if they’d give him airtime on CNN Europe.
Another Politoco piece of krap article. The commiecrats would love to get the citizens journalists all stired up and fighting amongst themselves. They certainly loved it when the Tea Party groups had a little falling out...they tried to get some dirt on it but I didn’t see where they found any.
As far as Ericson goes, I like some of his stuff, and don’t like some of his stuff and have called him on it...especially the ‘birther’ business. But he does have lots of good participants there. I’ve always suspected that Ericson had an agenda, and we’ll now see what his agenda really is.
As for Mitt Romney, he’s not only an elitist, he calls himself a ‘moderate’ and I don’t trust anybody who makes that claim. Either you have conservative principles and values or you don’t. We don’t need anymore elitists to join the DC club.
When I see that picture, I smell cheap cigar smoke and hear, “Hi. I’m Earl Scheib. And I’ll paint ANY car for just $99.95”
Here’s to another Romney shellacking in the 2012 race.
“Redstate and Hot Air and the rest are in the tank for Romney and hate Palin.”
Ed Morrisey is not really a Romney guy and is pretty fair to Sarah. Allahpundit? Not so much.
Worked for Harry Reid:
Beck compared Ari to a Hobbit and that led to charges of you know what.
