U.S. General David Petraeus said on Tuesday Iranian efforts to develop a nuclear weapon appear to have been delayed "a bit" and voiced confidence it would not have a bomb this year. The comments by the head of the U.S. Central Command, which oversees wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, underscored the Obama administration's message to Israel and Gulf allies -- that there is time to pressure Iran to abandon its nuclear weapons program by imposing more economic sanctions.

U.S. President Barack Obama's top military advisers, including Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, have been playing down the effectiveness of using military force against Iran.

"It has, thankfully, slid to the right a bit and it is not this calendar year, I don't think," Petraeus told a Senate panel when asked when Iran would have a nuclear weapon

Whew! Thank goodness that threat is gone. Now we can all rest easy and stand-down.

Well Petraeous saying..”I don’t think” doesn’t exactly give me a warm fuzzy feeling.

I really do not think that he has the entire picture.Israel’s Mossad would probably have any gaps of information he is lacking.

Did you see the thread of bunker bombs that left calif recently....along with other bombs. It still looks like they are planning on doing something...and I wonder about all this squabbling between US and Israel..if a diversion and or disinformation....

Iam under the impression things are still being staged....we know even the ME countries are even supporting taking Irans nuke facilities out...I think the decision has been made...it’s just when...

I understand that. I was making a snarky answer. What’s a few months or a year in the bigger picture, right? When Iran has the bomb, the world is really going to change. Who really cares of it’s 6 months from now, 1 year, 5 years or 10 years. The end result is the same.

Exactly. That’s how they have allowed Iran’s Islamic Regime to chirp away for 31 yrs.

They always come up w/excuses: it isn’t time, it is delayed, it is not a priority, it was USSR we had to worry about, it was the Taliban, Al Qaeda, Saddam Hussein, Chavez, China, Brazil, Financial Crisis (which we seem to have every several yrs), useless Sanctions galore, Pakistan, Palestinians, Israel, bla bla...

Either they are pathetically ignorant, head firmly buried in the sand, don’t want to address the Regime in Iran, or they are permitting the Islamic Regime gain prominence and muscle. Come to think of it, they are just as ridiculous as the Iranian Regime w/its ongoing saga...

Maybe Petraeous is succumbing to the Obama Regime's pressure to spout the party line.

Does this mean that without a delay, they would have had a bomb this year?

Iranian Moose are full of bluffalo just like most Moose (our own Obama included). They’ve not bothered to send samples of the supposedly enriched uranium they’ve boasted about to labs in the Western world that can vouch for it.

Yeah right... Why should the Iranians when the ‘Western World’ has repeatedly failed to take action to show it holds Iranians accountable??

Iranian regime is naturally defiant. Therefore, the onus is on the West to take practical action(s), beyond sanctions (with their loopholes), which most likely will not be implemented fully to make a difference, and/or words. What are we gonna do now?

Is this the same General David Petraeus who reported to the Joint Chiefs of Staff that the US is looking weak and losing standing in the Middle East because Israel has not surrendered sufficiently to the Palestinians? Could his report be what actually had Obama pick this current fight with Israel? Anybody? Beuller?

Iran's acquisition of nuclear weapons just isn't scary enough for most Westerers, because most Westerners can't fathom the Muslim mind. We must work to instill a sense of urgency in the Western mind using Western fantasies and fear, e.g.:

Iran's carbon footprint is enormous, they don't recycle, and they won't sign Kyoto.

Say that often enough, and even Jeremiah Wright will be calling for the bombing of Tehran.
