One of President Obama's great political gifts is his moderate demeanor -- cool, reasoned, self-contained. It masks the frank immoderation of everything about his final push on health-care reform.

His liberal admirers call him a centrist. He hasn't tried to pass a single-payer system, has he? But Obama is in Washington, not Ottawa. Single-payer couldn't pos sibly pass. Nor could the public option, which he supported until it reached its absolute expiration date. These aren't principled acts of centrism; they're unexceptional adjustments to reality.

Obama supports the leftmost plausible bill. It's as expansive and expensive as possible without getting so big it's utterly impossible to stuff through Congress.

This, from the article, is the single most confounding thing about Obama...

A more cautious and shrewd leader would avoid making easily falsifiable representations or putting himself on the hook in this way. Not Obama. On health care, he's immoderate in his substance, his risk-taking and his rhetoric. He's all in -- and he doesn't care.

He lies with absolute abandon...and he doesn't seem to care that the world is watching.

That speaks volumes, and not just about the man's character. What kind of man is it that doesn't care that he's exposing himself as such a HUGE liar?

As has been said before, God seeks man's transformation (by changing his heart)...Satan merely seeks his (man's) domination. I think we can see clearly which side Obama is on.

When domination is the goal, the ends justifies any means...and big lies are just the beginning!

Putting aside the lying, I know exactly WHY he's doing this - He can!!!

Obama is a socialist. The American people voted for this prick, without regard, now they have to live with it! We told them who he was and what he would do, but more votes were cast for him.

Obama is legislating the way gutless ass republicans would never attempt to. Republicans would never do what they think is right regardless of the political consequences. Because Obama has to lie and use unscrupulous deals to move forward, that's where I would draw the line, but he is policy making and dictating exactly the way we all thought he would.

And he does it by using the old tried and true “say yes, do no” approach. Say yes, do no is a very effective tactic used frequently by liberals. Most of us don’t want to believe someone would lie to us, so it takes us a while to figure out what’s happening. But by that time, much harm has been done, and the opponent on the road to getting the upper hand.

One thing that makes the approach so successful is that it requires us first to recognize that the actions don’t match the words, and secondly that it takes a definite mental action to displace the incorrect grasp we have of the situation. A lot of us simply won’t take the time or make the effort to discern the truth and then act on the realization. It’s especially difficult when the words being spoken are exactly what we want to hear or believe.

45+-% of Americans were strongly against Obama and some percentage (enough to tilt the scales in his favor) were stupid enough to think Obama would govern as a centrist. And African-Americans as a whole didn't even think about the subject of governance, they backed Obama purely because of his race.

But, for example, my next door neighbor is a black man (served in Iraq with the Guard). He was caught up in the excitement of electing an African American. BTW, he is sorry now.

While you are certainly right about the selfishness and decline of values in America (among some, not all of her citizens), it is clear that Obama was using some variation of neurolinguistic programming (NLP) to "sell" himself at the unconscious level. BTW, even effective salesmen might use such techniques, but not to the extent and on such a large, easily hypnotized audience as was available to Obama. NLP would be a tool quickly taken up by any socialist whose desire is domination and not true leadership.

This again points to the fact that Obama used deceit at every opportunity to "trick" his audience.

While there may be some who agree with his socialist agenda, I believe they are in the (not so insignificant) minority.

Just hang on and when the recording is over, you will get the Capitol operator. Just ask for your Rep or Senator’s office. Then you will either talk to an aid or have the chance to leave a message for him/her to vote NO on the health care bill.

When you use the second number and the Capitol operator comes on, just ask for your Rep or Senator’s office. Every time I use this number I get the Rep or Senator’s answer machine, so it may be set up that way all the time...to go to their answer machine. Either way you can leave a message to vote NO on the health care bill!
