Romney outlines plan to overturn health care bill

Former Massachusetts governor and 2008 GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney predicted that President Obama's massive health care bill would be passed by Congress, and he outlined a legislative strategy to overturn the bill by cutting off the funding necessary to implement it.

Speaking in Dallas yesterday as part of the publicity tour for his new book, No Apology: The Case for American Greatness, Romney said that the key to his plan was for the GOP to reclaim majorities in both houses of Congress as well as the White House.

Romney said that those members voting for the health care bill were guilty of "clueless behavior", and he predicts heavy losses heavy losses for Democrats in this year's midterm elections. "The American people are not going to stand still for this bill and the government running our healthcare, said Romney. "The American people will be with us and they will throw those guys out."

I propose an amendment to the U.S. constitution initiated by the states. Already something like 34 states want to challenge the law. Why not amend the constitution and end this nightmare once and for all?

It could be an amendment that addresses health care alone or could be broader, along the lines that the federal govt has no authority to force citizens to buy any particular good or service.

We would need two thirds of the states to call a convention and three fourths to ratify the amendment. Sounds like a tall order but given the revulsion to the law I think it is doable. Every state will have to raise taxes to cover the additional Medicaid costs.

Some plan that is. "We are going to win both houses of Congress and the presidency and overturn the Obamacare bill."

Forget that that is a pretty tall order, consider the prospects of trying to round up enough Republican votes to undo an entitlement even if the Republicans managed to pull off total control.

Fast forward in time when Obamacare is in place and people are relying on it for their health care needs. Certainly you can hear the cries from those objecting to taking Obamacare away.

Pick the most ill person as a prop for the Democrats, one that will at the time be receiving life saving treatment they would not have had without the plan. Unless the Republicans have that much spine - something they did not show for eight years on much less touchy issues - it aint gonna happen.

If Obamacare passes, the best that those opposed to it can hope for is to see adjustments to Obamacare to mitigate the damage it will do.

If that is Romney's plan, raise the white flag now.

Actually, there are ways to kill healthcare and the stimulus with a congressional majority. The rats will pass healthcare with 51 votes in the Senate. We can repeal it with that. Or attach a rider to the appropriations bill for the whole government prohibiting any money from being spent on any aspect of the health care bill or on the stimulus. Then Obama has to shut the government down with a veto.
