Correct. This is co-opt 101. The point is to try to convince conservatives that she is a conservative when they know that she is not. This is done by liberal press pretending that Meg Whitman is alarmingly conservative, knowing that if a liberal rag like the LAT says she is “too conservative” her support from conservatives may rise.
The Democrats are choosing the Republican “challenger”, so that either way, more liberalism results.
