OTTAWA—Security officials have scrubbed American right-winger Ann Coulter’s speech at the University of Ottawa after a boisterous protest prompted concerns for her safety.
A spokesman for the group that organized the event said there were fears for Coulter’s well-being after about two thousand people gathered outside the venue to protest her presence there.
Coulter is a darling of the U.S. right-wing who uses incendiary language to sell millions of books as well as her syndicated column.
She sparked more controversy during a speech at University of Western Ontario Monday night when she told a 17-year-old Muslim student to “take a camel” instead of a the flying carpet she has previously suggested Muslims use for transportation.
Even before her Canadian tour began, Coulter received a pre-emptive and private caution about the limits of free speech in this country from the provost of the University of Ottawa.
The letter was immediately leaked to select conservative news organizations, with Coulter telling one that the university was “threatening to criminally prosecute me for my speech.”

Socialized medicine, hate crimes, human rights commission witch hunts, excessive gun control, state-owned TV and Radio, a castrated military, leftist-only book stores, high taxes, radical leftist education system, the menace of multiculturalism, etc., etc.
When the police bust up a meeting of a group holding opposing views, ......we're getting close. The only thing missing from the Ann Coulter smash-down were the BrownShirts. Are beatings and prison next? Scary indeed. Never thought this would happen in my country.

I was speaking more about the political landscape as one of the many signs that alert us to His imminent coming. The “Miracle in Philadelphia,” the political birthplace of our country, corresponds to the Philadelphia Church age, the greatest of all church ages according to Revelation chapters 2 & 3. As the spiritually vibrant and alive Philadelphia age gave way to the spiritually lukewarm, self-satisfied, and “wretched” Laodicean age in the biblical prophecy, so we’ve seen a spiritual and political transformation and decline since around 1900. As you're aware, here, the spiritual decline of power and influence of the church has corresponded to the political decline in the gradual erosion of freedom and the growth of government all the way up to last Sunday.
In the spiritual landscape, God is moving around the globe, including South Korea, calling all those who will to "Come and dine." That feast is quickly approaching. But I see no political power other than America that can withstand the dark political and spiritual forces that at some point, God will allow as a means to ultimately destroy the “Babylonian” world system. That point is rapidly approaching, maybe we’re pretty much there,
God wants us to have an understanding what’s going on because as it says in Thessalonians, it gives us peace and comfort, knowing as it says repeatedly in Daniel, another book about the end times, that God rules the kingdoms of the earth and gives them to whoever he chooses. And as it also says in Daniel, what God has ordained for the end times will happen. I think we’re watching the elements slowly but surely converge.
Our job as His children? Surrender to Him. Watch and pray. Be strong and do exploits. And look up for our redemption draws near. Hallelujah.

March 23, 2010Coulter "Mobbed" at Ottawa U
When I heard Coulter was coming to Canada I figured attending the event would be worth the entertainment value, if for nothing other than to witness the unhinged reaction that was sure to follow. Ottawa U didn't disappoint.
When I arrived there was a line of a few hundred, maybe a thousand people outside the Marion building. A few of them were chanting in front of the cameras but the line was otherwise better behaved than for a typical rock concert. The size of the line was no doubt a bit of a problem because the room held no more than 400 (my estimate).
Since I had registered for the event ahead of time I had no trouble elbowing my way to the front, verifying my name was on the list, getting inside and chatting briefly with Ezra Levant.
After a while the fire alarm went off, the obvious false alarm having been dealt with we sat down expecting the event to start.
Instead Ezra announced that police told him it would be "physically unsafe" to bring Ann in due to the "unruly mob" outside. There was certainly no issue, or even noise, inside the auditorium.
Since I was inside at that point I don't know how unruly they became outside. But this is the national capital, just a few blocks from Parliament Hill, the US Embassy, the Prime Minister's Residence and countless embassies. The police surely have the capability to respond to anyone threatening a woman with dozens of TV cameras around. Instead, they chose to cancel the event instead.
After leaving the auditorium (from a side entrance, as the police insisted), I walked back out front to see what the commotion was:
A lone policewoman standing on the step asked me to leave after I took her picture. I did leave, after expressing disbelief that they canceled the event over what appeared to be a few dozen pathetic protesters chanting in front of the nearby cameras.
A truly pathetic situation all around.

I was just outside the door to the auditorium waiting to get in since I had registered. Most of the students had not registered and were told they would not get in because their name was not on the registration list. Those students did not leave, even after the fire alarm went off (set off intentionally to disrupt the event??), and despite the request of security and the lone policewoman.
Most were polite and patient but there was a small but very vocal group agitating. If the doors had been opened I am sure there would have been a mad rush and several hundred kids would have streamed in. One organizer at the door said it was cancelled because it was not a safe situation. This remark was booed.
A contingent of police did come, I estimate about 5 of them about 20 min after the fire alarm. No firemen. We were then told after an hour of waiting, the event was canceled. Still no one left for about 15-20 min. I was told by security that Ann Coulter did not set foot in Marion Hall.
While waiting outside, a group of students were handing out anti-racism, anti-islamaphobia, anti-hate buttons and posters trying to get people riled up. Only about 1 in 5 or 6 accepted.
Not one student I asked had a read a book she had written or could identify exactly what hate speech she actually said. Clips of you tube videos of "hateful" things were cited.
Pathetic all around. Jaeger, at least you got to hear Ezra Levant.

Its nice to get eye witness accounts of these things. Looks like the event got canceled due to officials basically not wanting to be bothered with a ruckus from less than twenty jerkoffs. Sheer laziness, in other words.
We live in a country where not-very-important people, like campus security guards, get to decide who speaks and who doesn't, at whim. I'd say that's getting pretty far along the police state path.
I hope Ann sues the britches off 'em.

Of course Coulter got banned. Canada might have more self-righteous lefties per capita than the U.S. I wonder if Noam Chomsky, Cornell West, or Angela Davis would have any problems trying to speak in Ottawa? Libs and lefties have a severe problem of being unable to tolerate differnces of opinion. Therefore, any dissenting voices must be shut down. Congrats Canada, another victory for fascism. (smirk)
What was missing was the amount of people with pies in their hands. Here in the States, leftist arguments consist mainly of being able to throw a pie at a political opponent. That's of course if they're not able to completely stop a conservative from speaking. I'm only half kidding. Maybe Canadian lefties haven't glommed onto the American leftist method of keen political discourse. (smirk)
