Huge crowds expected for McCain-Palin event
The East Valley Tribune, Phoenix, Ariz. ^ | 2010-03-23 | Mike Sakal

Campaign staff and volunteers of Sen. John McCain and his former vice presidential running mate Sarah Palin are preparing for the pair’s appearance at Mesa’s Dobson High School on Saturday.

A spokesman for the camp offered a bit of advice for those wanting to get in: “Folks should get there early,” said Brian Rogers, McCain’s communications director. The event is free, on a first-come, first-served basis and does not require a ticket.

(snip)

Also speaking at a rally in Tucson on Friday, the appearances are McCain and Palin’s first ones together at a public event since their concession speech in the 2008 presidential race.

Their appearance comes just four days after President Barack Obama signed a $938 billion health care reform bill. McCain has been an outspoken critic of the bill and plans to lead an effort to repeal it.

Palin, the former governor of Alaska, is stumping for McCain. She will speak about McCain’s values and what she learned from him during their 2008 presidential campaign and through his battles against his own party line, Rogers said.

McCain will speak about what he appreciates in Palin’s leadership, and speak out against what he believes are misguided priorities in the White House including government overspending, his concerns for the 17 percent unemployment rate in Arizona and the state’s home foreclosure problem as 48 percent of homeowners in Arizona are under water, according to Rogers.

u and the rest of you gop haters claim Bush was the biggest grower of government ever.

if that were true then you could easily show that the number of federal workers in relation to population grew over Bush’s terms. You haven’t been able to show that and you can show either that the net number of government agencies grew.all you can show is dollar values that don’t take into account such factors as inflation or population growth etc.

so what about mcain? yeah he’s a liberal . so if a liberal lunatic registers a Republican then we are supposed to hate all Republicans. I’d say at MOST 15-20% of the GOP are liberals. yeah those 15-20% have to be thrown out but what else can stop democrats ? .what agrees with you 80% of the time?

whereas Sarah fights the party machine and opposes corruption.
McCain is part of the "party machine," and yes, McCain is definitely corrupt.

Sarah must be working from the inside to bring down McCain and the GOP 'business-as-usual' crowd, that's got to be it.

Very sly.

“u and the rest of you gop haters claim Bush was the biggest grower of government ever.”

Ignoring Obama, he’s tied between FDR and LBJ.

“if that were true then you could easily show that the number of federal workers in relation to population grew over Bush’s terms. “

That isn’t what “growing government” means. I’ve tried to explain that to you.

“dollar values that don’t take into account such factors as inflation or population growth etc.”

Yes, they do. New entitlements have nothing to do with inflation or population growth.

“I’d say at MOST 15-20% of the GOP are liberals. “

Of the GOP leadership, it's more like 50% or more and one of the worst is the subject of this thread. You know, the one Palin is giving support to? You know, against the CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE?

I saw democrats creat thousands of government agencies and programs and creat millions of government jobs.

Bush might have created a handful of programs but he cut many more than he added .So republicans didn’t create a net of thousands of government agencies with millions of new government workers like Democrats DID.

This latest democrat government healthcare law alone creates I forgot the exact number but it was in the hundreds or thoudands of government buracracies and agencies.

all you can show is dollar values that don’t take into account such factors as inflation or population growth etc.

It's clear that you didn't actually read The Heritage Foundation link that I provided, and it's also a damn shame.

Quote:

From 2001 to 2003 total spending grew by 16 percent. Certainly the terror attacks of 9/11 placed additional demands on spending for homeland security, a strong defense, and rebuilding New York. However, this accounts for less than half of the new spending that has occurred since 9/11.

and

the President's record of a discretionary spending increase of 27 percent over the past two years (i.e., 2002-2004)

and

Education spending has increased by 65 percent over the past two years, and still the President's proposals will likely contain additional spending.

Now, you keep mentioning "such factors as inflation or population growth etc." However, the annual rates at which non-defense spending increased under the Bush administration far outweigh historical population growth trends (2-3 percent annually). So, unless inflation was in double-digit territory, I'd like you to expound on exactly what factors necessitated such dramatic increases in non-defense spending.

Republicans couldn’t cut that much government or spending because democrats could filibuster as Republicans didn’t have a fillibuster proof Senate and so Democratr could filibuster/stop any cuts.

Bush and Repubilcans tried to privatize social security but democrats and the media stopped him .

The source of your data? Government employment levels have been fairly stable for quite some time.... and he certainly didn’t cut more than he added. Especially when you consider scale.

Yes, he tried. Not very hard. His major legislative goal to use his newfound post-2004 politcal capital was illegal alien amnesty, not social security privatization. He pushed that quite a bit harder.

I see you admit what I have been claiming :that the number of government workers didn't increase during Bush's terms.

It's just common sense that if Bush had grown government soooooo much as you claim then that would have created many government jobs. you and your allies say that the dollar values or whatever spun statistic (Lie) is more important.

Ah, but contractors did... and you still can’t get it through your head that the number of employees is not what we talk about when we say he “grew government”.

“It’s just common sense”

Quite a few things people think are “common sense” are also wrong.

I think all of us real freedom loving pro-Palin, pro-Republican conservatives have to take a stand against these Palin bashing morons, Republican bashing morons on this forum. We must unite against them and report them to the moderators en masse. And we have to do this because I say they are not conservatives but democrats/marxists posing as conservatives that come on here with one purpose to turn conservatives against Republicans, to divide conservatives by bashing Republicans and bashing our Sarah.
How sad.

It is sad. The poster who is calling for a mass purge of FReepers is doing so on the basis of 'because they say so', no evidence, no proof, nothing to support their allegations whatsoever. That statement is the rhetorical equivalent of the lone maniac in an already fevered mob, that jumps up at just the right moment to say "GET THEM! GET THEM ALLLLL!!!! YAARRRRRGGGHHH!!!" and that is when the panic is triggered and the bloodbath begins.

That isn't going to happen here. This isn't the DU, this is Jim Robinson's house, and while he is on the record of supporting Sarah Palin, if and when the time comes when he is forced to choose between his faith and adherence to the United States Constitution and our Republic, and ANY politician no matter who they are, he is going to come down on the side of our Constitution, personality and politics be damned. Had Jim Robinson been living 200+ years ago, he would have signed his name on the Declaration of Independence as big as did John Hancock, to make sure everyone knew just where he stood (and as legend has it, Hancock signed it that big so that King George could see his name without his spectacles).

When handed power, the Republican establishment has failed to actually achieve any semblance of a conservative or libertarian agenda and instead has pushed its own progressive lite agenda.

That is true. I challenge any poster to disprove it.

And yet self-described "conservatives" still flock to the Republicans without question or hesitation, deluded with the notion that, maybe just this one time, the Republican establishment will somehow, maybe finally fulfill their promises.

The fact is, the GOP establishment has been stabbing conservatives in the back for years, they pay lip service as we approach every election day, but once the votes are cast, they have always gone right back to 'go along to get along' with their 'Rat cronies in the Congress. That is proven historical fact.

Talk about the political equivalent of battered wife syndrome. Enjoy your Big Government. You've earned it.

No. The actual explanation is a lack of party discipline. The Democrats can always almost always find Republican bipartisan cover. For instance, Obamacare would never have gotten out of committe if it hadn’t been for Olympia Snowe.
