Fox: Many large companies dropping health care insurance for their retirees
Fox News Channel | 3/25/10

Posted on 03/25/2010 10:25:48 AM PDT by pabianice

Just announced on Fox. One of the first "benefits" of Obamacare is news that companies with large populations of retirees that now have health insurance through their former employees will, instead, be dumped and forced onto Medicaid and Medicare. The resulting fines for the companies will be far less than continuing to pay for retirees' medical care. It's all allegedly legal under ObamaCare.

Verizon has many retirees in the Communication Workers Of America union plans. Yes..it sounds familiar because it is..they are commies. Go check out their site:

http://www.cwa-union.org/about

They are tied into the AFL-CIO. Verizon was a big Obama supporter.

There isn’t a choice, you are correct. And just as a side note, people don’t “love” their medicare, they have no choice but to use it!

I’m sure all working people who actually pay taxes, including black people, will be screwed.

I’m not a lawyer...but I can’t help but wonder if a lawyer (Obama)
has sponsored the death of contract law in America. (I admit that
the agreements governing employer payments to retirees may have
major “escape clauses” for both the employer/retirees.)

If Obama and Co. have screwed with contract law, especially for retirees...
I pray Obama, Reid, Pelosi and their merry band of Chicago-style thugs
assume the “deer-in-the-headlight” stare in disbelief when the November
election returns come in.

>>> “If Obamacare stands, private insurers will serve no useful purpose. The goverment will decide who is covered, what everyone pays, and what medical services will be delivered. It’s all one big public option.” <<<

Not necessarily. Look at workers’ compensation. The (state) governments tell insurers who is covered, what everyone pays, and what medical services will be delivered. The compromise that emerged after the system had been in place is the state governments provide a guaranteed profit margin on insurance policies and everyone wins. Everyone is happy with it and Lord knows I’ve made a hell of a lot of money off of the stocks of property and casualty insurance companies.

If - and this is a **big** if - the health care bill gets modified over the next 10 years to resemble the workers’ compensation system in states like Utah or Texas and NOT California - it can work. If it gets modified to function like California’s insurance system, the whole thing will go to hell and a lot of hardworking people will be screwed.

Actually, the more and more I think of it, the better and better Texas seems to be as a model for everything from insurance law to tax rates. Maybe it should just become its own Republic again ...

Umm.. this is the communist’s goal and why Obama was chosen for President. They want to put private insurance out of business and make socialized medicine mandatory for everyone. The 1st step is to dump people off private plans and the very low fines are intended to do just this. The next step will be to mandate government supplied insurance.

The communist plan is working like clock-work because the useful idiots continue to play into the communists hands. I know some very intelligent, successful middle class couples who are flaming liberals who continually support everything the communists are trying to achieve sold under the umbrella of modern “liberalism”. As smart as they are, they are oblivious that they are digging their grandchildren’s graves.

There grandchildren will have very little freedom beyond abortions, gay sex, and many entertainment choices. How they live, spend, travel and work will all be limited by the government.

Bye bye Miss American Freedom. It was a good run. I think I’ll take my Chevy to the levee and drink heavily so I can be as equally oblivious to the coming opressive tyranny.

Thanks for the reference.
The thread suggests a "fait accompli" while the WSJ article only states what are possible ramifications.

"Or these companies will move off shore and not pay anything. So much for jobs."

That was my first thought too.

We are all going to get screwed equally by this death bill, regardless of race or income in the end.

The higher income people by having their property stolen, businesses ruined and dumped into an inferior gov. healthcare....the middle income workers by having their property stolen, more job losses and getting dumped into inferior gov. healthcare and the poor by becoming more underemployed/ unemployed, never being able to succeed or progress and being subjected to inferior gov. healthcare.

WE ARE ALL SCREWED!

LOL! I am sorry folks but this makes me laugh my ass off. Every single person in America that sat on their hands or voted for Obama deserves every last shred of what they get and I hope and laugh as they all get screwed by the commie POS.

This could be the start of what FINALLY wakes some people up, those who have still been sleeping (= voting Democrat).

Yeah, if the sheeple don't wake up over THIS, they are hopeless cases...

I'm mad as hell over the mandates, high taxes, etc., but what REALLY ticks me off is living under government-run healthcare: The potential wait lists, denial of medications, surgery, medical treatment, good doctors retiring early, etc. That's what's fired me up over ObamaCare all these long months.

The Republicans keep talking about the cost and taxes involved with ObamaCare... it goes WAY beyond that.

I have been trying to get the point across here as well, though not as articulately as you just did. People who were responsible, planned for their retirement so they wouldn't be a burden on anyone, and took jobs they may not have wanted or particularly enjoyed in order to do just that, are demonized. The entire country is upside down, since when are those bad things? A lot of these people may not have liked the unions anymore than those so against them publicly, but they work where it benefits their families, and I won't bash hard working Americans for working hard and planning for their futures. To do so is way to far off the jealousy line. It's union management that is the blame, not employees, who wouldn't join the union if they didn't have to.

It's also why the Republican Party has been part of the strategy all along.

It is no mystery to me why Alan Simpson is on Obama's Debt Reduction Panel.

I have said it so many times I should use a macro, in fact I will.

The Republican party has been hiding behind the Supreme Court for decades, allowing them to carry out their true desire, while taking no blame for it. Cool huh?
