Tempers flare as reports of anti-Democratic violence mount

Tempers are flaring and heated rhetoric is flying as Congress tries to wrap up legislation overhauling the nation's health care system.

Things got tense Wednesday night on Fox News' "The O'Reilly Factor," when New York Democratic Congressman Anthony Weiner — an outspoken advocate of universal health coverage — repeatedly shouted that host Bill O’Reilly was "making stuff up" about the enforcement of the law. At one point, Weiner glowered silently on camera, then shouted "Watch this" to O’Reilly, pointing to his mouth in the course of explaining that the IRS was not going to assess fines on citizens refusing to comply with the individual mandate to obtain health insurance.

But for some embattled supporters of the bill, the situation has become more frightening than a face-off with Bill O'Reilly. [UPDATE: Those under threat now apparently include Weiner. On Thursday, the FBI said Weiner's office had received a letter that "could be interpreted as threatening," the Associated Press reported; local media said it contained a white powder.]

In her weekly Capitol news conference Thursday morning, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi addressed questions on the reported stream of threats against lawmakers who voted for the bill. One reporter asked her about her emotional response to the harsh rhetoric, given that her home district in San Francisco suffered the 1978 assassination of Harvey Milk, the first openly gay member of the city’s Board of Supervisors. After a moment's pause,

In my immature days, I would have added (O'Reilley spanks Weiner) as a subheading, but I've gotten all of that sort of stuff out of my system by now.

explaining that the IRS was not going to assess fines on citizens refusing to comply with the individual mandate to obtain health insurance.

This is exactly what the bill says. I cannot wait until the 2012 election when we can parade all the blue-collar and middle class Americans who were fined by the IRS for not buying health insurance that they could not afford.

They talk about some phone calls and emails Dems receive yet completely ignore Eric Cantor’s office being shot at or the SEIU thugs beating up an African American tea party protester this past weekend.

to liberals if the target is a liberals it's a hate crime, if the target is a conservative it's justified.

But the fact remains, there is nothing that actually ties the threats to conservatives, whereas the SEIU thugs are on film beating up a black conservative.

That's exactly what the bill says.
Did Weiner even read the bill before he voted for it? .

Why is in the bill, then? I checked the one 0bama supposedly signed (the House Bill from Sunday) and it affords penalties. See section 401, under TITLE IV--AMENDMENTS TO INTERNAL REVENUE CODE OF 1986.

So someone maintains the IRS will not collect fines for those who refuse to buy? So then there will be the same "those" who get medical care without paying right? Or, paying the first premium and getting in under the no-preconditions clause?

And it took years of work, thousands of pages, and a few dollars of congressional staff salaries, to construct this garbage?

God, God, these congressmen are stupid!!! What have we solved at all?

Truly this Healthcare Bill is one of the greatest fiasco's of modern politics. Brought to you by Rahm, Nancy, and Barack, and a whole lot of truly solicitous Democrats. Amazing!

And all it would have taken is to exterminate the lawyers.

And after congress demonstrated its utter contempt for the American people by forcing through a bill which a demonstrable majority of the nation doesn’t want, thereby sinking a recessional economy ever deeper into the crapper to guarantee that millions of Americans will be without work for years to come, we should trust the word of a congressman because...?

The real question, what is the criteria to be used under which someone is to be fined?

So, one does not work, does not have income and does not file an income tax return; so how is that handled under this government taxation program?

Further, who makes sure you have medical coverage/insurance?

One reporter asked her about her emotional response to the harsh rhetoric, given that her home district in San Francisco suffered the 1978 assassination of Harvey Milk, the first openly gay member of the city’s Board of Supervisors. After a moment's pause...Nope, no bias here as the reporter goes all histrionic and suggests Milk was assinated for politica purposes and by some Republican. In fact, Milk (and Moscone) were assasinated by Dan White, a fellow Democrat.

After a moment's pause, Pelosi replied, "I believe that words have power. They weigh a ton. They are read differently by people depending on, let's say, their emotional state."

Apparentently Speaker Pelosi, Yahoo! News, Sean Penn, and the "reporter" never bothered to learn the full details of Harvey Milk's death, but here they are:

Milk was killed in 1978 by fellow councilman Dan White. White was a Catholic fireman with a family who did not approve of homosexuality, but at that time there were plenty of homosexuals in SF. Including in his own district. He was cited on the job for bravery in running into burining buildings. In 1978, he resigned his post and tried to open a seafood resteraunt, which failed. He then sought to be reinstated, with the support of his district. He was, of course, opposed by the Democrat council memebers, including Milk. Mayor George Moscone initially approved the reinstatement, and then denied it. At that point, White went to the Mayor's office and shot him. Milk was in the office next door, so White shot him too, because "he was there." There you have it, Milk was not a martyr for being gay, or for being on the city council, or because of "words." He died because he was there. Sad, but it has nothing to do with anything going on today. He was most certainly not the gay Martin Luther King.
