NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- It's official: Californians will decide whether legal marijuana should be used to plug the state's $20 billion budget gap.

California residents are expected to vote this year on whether legalization should be approved to raise nearly $1.4 billion in state revenue.

Defense contracts are usually for the federal government and require a drug and alcohol program. This would be a condition of employment and you could be not hired or fired depending on when you failed the test. This is different from being arrested which is a criminal deal. The problem is there will be a lot more people failing drug tests and after training someone and getting them up to speed to have to fire them is costly. More temptation is going to mean more people getting caught and higher costs, not to mention the problem of someone working while high until they get caught. Then you get to the peer pressure thing about “do you or at are you cool to it” and the inevitable fights over narcing out your co worker. It's a mess we don't want to go through.

I said it is illegal to drive under the influence of any substance.
Besides you can drive with pot in the car if you have a medical just like you can drive with a bottle of booze. It is supposed to be in the trunk of the car.
And I also said the signs I have seen in doctors offices who prescribe pot all say “21 older only”.

There will be users how buy from untaxed and unregulated suppliers but, the groundswell of users, who have a medical recommendation, purchasing from a legal source is huge.

People want to be in the open about it and free from harassment by the law.

In Los Angeles you have 1,000 shops selling cannabis and in San Jose there are more than 60.

People want to be open about it and they want to purchase cannabis that is organic and free from toxic agents that sometimes find their way into their smoke.

If CA passes this, it takes a step in the right direction in the reversal of 100 years of progressivism.

"Conservative" drug warriors take note: it was the Progressives that passed the original federal drug prohibition law during the Wilson Admin (1914: Harrison Narcotics Act), and added marijuana to the list during the FDR Admin (1937: Marihuana Tax Stamp Act).

It will be interesting to see if the feds step in to try to stop CA if they go down this road.
