Force of Darkness “Earth Hour” Challenged by Power of Light “Human Achievement Hour”
Competitive Enterprise Institute ^ | 3/19/10 | Richard Morrison

Posted on 03/27/2010 9:00:50 AM PDT by ProtectOurFreedom

he Competitive Enterprise Institute, a leading free-market think tank, will celebrate the Second Annual “Human Achievement Hour” between 8:30pm and 9:30pm on Saturday, March 27, 2010. The one-hour celebration coincides with “Earth Hour,” an hour in which governments, individuals, and corporations will dim or shut off lights to symbolically renounce the environmental impacts of modern technology. “Earth Hour’s creators suggest that human inventions and technology are a problem, but we see the ability to create and innovate as the ultimate resource,” says Human Achievement Hour founder and CEI Policy Analyst Michelle Minton. “Environmental challenges will not be solved by turning off our lights and symbolically hiding in the dark,” Minton added. “If anything, we should be looking to technology and innovation to help solve environmental problems.”

Just like last year, countless individuals, organizations, agencies and businesses will be celebrating Human Achievement Hour without even realizing it. Just by not shutting down their lights, operations and stores, they will be acknowledging that productive effort and the pursuit of happiness are a better alternative than sitting in the dark.

In addition to the observance of Human Achievement Hour, wherever people may find themselves around the world, CEI will be hosting a happy hour event outside of Washington, D.C.

Brilliant!

But don’t worry...from what I read/hear China is planning one big-@ss cyber-attack on us...and all the electrical grids are run by computer.

So, it may be coming sooner than later.

Buy a generator...because there will only be a few of us (with generators) left here on FR to hold the line. ;)

“The Deacon announced that each of the 325,350 Christmas lights were dedicated as a prayer for the safety of our military men and women.”

That is a VERY nice thing to do! :)

Guess I’ll stop buying their apple juice.

Whenever there is hope in the world, Red China gets in there and does its best to squash it!

You hit it on the head. These people live in a fantasy land all the time. Once it hits them they’ll be screamin and hollerin’. The tuition is going up so the students will be protesting. Everyone will learn but...unfortunately it will be too late.

Only trouble with this was that I hadn’t heard about it, nor had anyone that I know also March 27th(today)is Saturday and the majority of businesses across the country are closed at night. What a joke. If it had been the middle of the week and had been advertised, I’m sure that people would have done without for an hour, after all, just think what you can do in the dark...

Beam me to Planet Gore !

In the duel of Earth Hour versus Human Achievement Hour, on Saturday evening, March 27, at 8:30 p.m. YourTime, it might be interesting to see who (reportedly) took the plunge into darkness & despair for Earth Hour, unlike the rest of us who celebrated lights ON for Human Achievement Hour.

I am not making this up.

State government entities, including some capitol buildings, in

Additionally:

Ironically, the rush to darkness troubled some government types, like the Niagara Falls fire department, who are worried about public safety.

H/T and Thanx to Christine Hall @ CEI.

Just a quick note about earth hour - I work in a control room for a large eastern US power company. I have access to the load data and real-time load charts. I happened to be on duty on the evening of March 27th, and I can say with certainty that I saw NO noticeable change in power consumption that took place at 8:30 PM eastern or central time. It didn't rise or drop.

If there was any participation in earth hour, it was very minimal and what little there was was offset by those celebrating Human Achievement Hour (which I did last year).

We freepers all turned on every light and appliance in the house. We took up the slack as we know how critical it is to not shock the load balance on our electrical grid.
