US 'may not veto UN resolution on Jerusalem'
BBC ^ | March 28, 2010 | BBC

The US is considering abstaining from a possible UN Security Council resolution against Israeli settlement expansion in East Jerusalem, the BBC has learned.

The US usually blocks Security Council resolutions criticising Israel.

But relations between the allies have been severely strained by the announcement of plans to build 1,600 homes in an East Jerusalem settlement during a recent visit to Israel by US Vice-President Joe Biden.

Jews make up 2.2% of the US population but hold disproportionate influence to their numbers due to larger concentrations of wealth in the Jewish population as well as the prominence of Jewish leaders in business, academia, politics, and the medical profession.

The disproportionate influence of Jews is due to the Creator not their wealth.

The symbolism of this week’s meeting at the White House is too strong and the failure of the Jewish community to speak out suggests its influence is minimal in this White House.

The Jewish community HAS spoken - recently and uncharacteristically demonstrably. See my other post on this thread. To that you can add this Nearly 300 in Congress back keeping U.S.-Israel disputes private

You can be assured much more is going on behind the scenes.

“You are incorrect. These settlements including E Jer are illegal under international law. Continued US acquiescence is looking unlikely - welcome to the future my friends.”

In the future, Israel will continue to exist, irrespective of what the US does. The fact is that Israel, as little as it is, will always be able to hand the entire collection of Arab states their a**es, and no matter how much oil money is involved the Arab states won't be able to compete with Israel. The reason is that the Arab states have chosen to perpetuate hate and a antiquated world view that is holding their own societies back. The only way the Arab states can hurt Israel is with nukes or their equivalent, and if they use this approach it will guarantee the destruction of their own societies. Those are just the facts.

"The terrorists want part of Jerusalem as their capitol"

And I want Mecca for my pig farm. My chances are a lot better than theirs.

There was no controversy in building these homes in a JEWISH neighborhood. Obama invented the controversy as an excuse to push his anti-Israel agenda.

Would you please quote the “international laws” that prohibit settlements in EAST JERUSALEM?

The “laws” only apply to Gaza strip and the West Bank.

Your anti-semitism is showing. Are you an Obamabot?

But i still think it´s an empty threat because the US would never really do this. (Israel would be “ruined” if the US would really do this).

How many things has Obama already done that any sane American thought a POTUS would never do? I'm not sure failing to VETO a U.N. Resolution which would outlaw sovereign Israel control of its own capital would even make the top five.

Crazy, radical and reckless as it would be, I can't see why you think Obama wouldn't do it.

I expected this passive-aggressive strategy the moment Obama was elected. The only surprise to me is that it’s taken so long.

The US has always been pro-Israel — until Obama got elected, who is very clearly anti-Israel.

Hillary had a kiss for Arafat's wife when her husband was President.
