Man guilty of cutting out Jacksonville DJ's eyes

Anthony Blakely was satisfied with guilty verdicts against the Jacksonville man who cut his eyeballs out during a 2008 attack, but he said it's still hard to grasp how much of life's beauty was stolen from him that night.

"It brings closure, but it's still a little empty," Blakely said minutes after a jury convicted Foster Rayfield Leon of kidnapping and attempted second-degree murder with a weapon.

This is NOT the first time I've read about an atrocity like this happening in this country. :-( Thankfully previous atrocities have been quite rare, but there have been a few criminals who've tried to prevent witnesses from ID'ing them by deliberately destroying the victim's eyesight. There have been a *very* few cases of revenge blinding, too, but that's been even rarer .

I don't care if is IS "stooping to their level" : Cases like this *almost* make me wish we had a "sharia law option". WHY should a thing like this, who robbed a man of his sight, go to prison with his capacity to enjoy cable TV and porn mags (yes, both are obtainable in prison) intact? I hope someone in the prison he goes to agrees with me, and has the capacity to act.

I looked on line for more info about this case, found this article : Defense attorneys told the jury there is no physical evidence linking Leon to the attack and because Blakely is blind, he cannot point out his attacker. Prosecutors tried to recreate a timeline of places the two men went together that night, and they called one of Leon's former cellmates who testified that Leon confessed to him. "He said, 'Wouldn't that suck if this was the last thing you ever see?,'" Alexander Ahlf said. "And he ended that with, 'And that is the reason why I'm not worried about the victim testifying against me.'
