Top insurance exec: Your health premiums will go up, coverage will change under Obamacare
Washington Examiner ^ | March 29, 2010 | Byron York

Many, many times during the health care debate, President Obama promised the American people that if they have insurance and they are happy with it, then it would not change under the Democrats' national health care proposal. "Under the plan, if you like your current health insurance, nothing changes, except your costs will go down by as much as $2,500 per year," Obama promised on his transition website before assuming office. Once in the White House, he repeated that promise over and over and over.

You didn't really believe that, did you? Good. To confirm your suspicions, read the new BusinessWeek interview with Ron Williams, the chairman and CEO of Aetna Insurance, which covers more than 36 million Americans:

Will insurance premiums go up?

The answer is yes, and some of the things that will drive those premiums are significant additional taxes the industry will ultimately have to pay in the first year.

The President said that this bill would not have any impact on people who already had coverage, that it was about the uninsured, that there would be no change. Will this legislation change the coverage of people who are already paying for it?

My perception is, yes, things will change. You might not have a plan that includes the exact same doctors. You might have plans that have richer benefits, and therefore you're going to pay more for benefits you may or may not want. It would have been a better message to say, we're going to make certain you maintain your eligibility.

Right, like when the US govt told the American Indians, that if they would just move onto the reservation, they could still hunt like they did before, etc. etc.

Ask any American Indian how THAT promise worked out for them.

Interesting that Barackula signed this pos on March 23.
Hitler signed the Enabling Act March 23, 1933. 77 years to the date.

If you take the $2500 savings you will never get and use it as a deposit on a house you can't afford, you just might make out after receiving a bail out from a future Obama stimulus.

Universal healthcare has to be subsidized by any or all of the following, by defintion . . .

Heahlthier policyholders
Insurance co. profits and innovations
Lesser quality care
Tazpayers
Future generations of taxpayers

There’s no other way around these. No free lunches here, unless you’re an illegal alien

Exactly. And Margaret Thatcher’s “ratchet” effect will be clearly seen as this plays out to its logical conclusion. the back-and-forth between the “two parties” will prove to be kabuki theater. I hope no one is holding their breath waiting for repeal.

Wait’ll they find out they get the new members, but they can’t increase the premiums to cover the new benefits both the new and the old members get. They’ll be thrilled.

Of course, with a few bucks directed to a certain reelection account, that little problem can all be solved...

Those of us who were paying attention, KNEW Hussein was, as always, lying through his teeth. The fools who believed him are in for a rude awakening. I’m pleased to report that two friends of mine, die hard Dim-o-crats, despise Hussein and are considering changing parties. I suppose it’s never too late to see the light.

Oh, there will be repeal, one way or the other. Even if we have to toss every last one of these bozos out on their cans to do it.

I think they should do for life insurance what they did for health insurance. No more denying coverage just because of pre-existing death. After your family member dies, you should be able to walk into the insurance company and get a million dollar policy. They should be required to pay out on it, just like the health insurance industry. Heartless bastards!

Soon it will be tie to short the health insurance companies as Obama's plan to destroy them comes to fruition.
