ZAPATA - Zapata County Sheriff Sigifredo Gonzalez Jr. says a Mexican Military Helicopter was seen crossing into U.S. airspace around 3:30 Sunday afternoon.
A number of witnesses including a justice of the peace reported the helicopter as it hovered over Zapata County.
The witnesses say the helicopter was flying pretty low.
This is the second time this month a Mexican Military helicopter has crossed into South Texas. The first was a over Falcon Heights, about 14 miles from Roma.
Witnesses there say the chopper hovered over a home that used to belong to a drug dealer before flying back to Mexico.
U.S. officials are now trying to determine why the helicopter entered our airspace.
I an trying to determine why our Air Force didn’t shoot it down.
Looking for free health care.
Helicopters!!! Guess I’d better get out the tin foil to cover my head....of course that won’t do me much good when some Mexican cartel thug decides to lop it off!
Would it be legal and moral for the sheriff to shoot the damned thing down?
We sent Stingers to the mujaheddin in Afghanistan in the ‘80s. Why can’t we do that now in South Texas?
‘Bush’s fault’, said the White House Press Office.
“I an trying to determine why our Air Force didnt shoot it down.”
Or at least forced to land, chopped up and shipped back in small boxes.
I’d shoot the foreign aircraft down. It’d be interesting to see who our gov’t sides with.

Who owns the home now?
So how would those chopper blades look on the front of his caddy?

Is it legal to shoot at or shoot down a aircraft that is not authorized to be in this country by Joe Sixpack?
Pregnant woman on board, about to give birth.
My guess is one of their drug dealers tried to flee the country without the proper government payoffs, so they were trying to “extradite” him back.
Bush had 8 years to build a fence.
I’ll leave it at that.
Some Texan ought to shoot it down and hang it over the mantle.
You could launch a rocket at it carrying a wire cable so the cable will tangle in the main or tail rotors.
“Would it be legal and moral for the sheriff to shoot the damned thing down?”
It would be both legal and moral, but whoever did it would be prosecuted and jailed.
Good article by Rueters, can’t be posted.
Mexico drug hitmen terrorize towns on U.S. border
http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE62O5JZ20100326?feedType=RSS&feedName=domesticNews
highlights:
Mexican drug hitmen are shooting up houses and terrorizing remote farming towns on the U.S. border, forcing residents to leave...and guess where they’re going.
Local police have fled and many residents are seeking asylum in Texas or crossing the border
Rumors that drug gangs have given people living in El Porvenir two months to leave or be killed has left the town in a state of psychosis.
I recall something about a militia on some old piece of paper some place.
We didn’t do anything about the thirty million invaders that came before and now we are worried about one helicopter?
Wait till it looks like amnesty is going to get passed. You will see a flood of invaders coming from the south to take root.
Suppose amnesty doesn’t pass, and the invaders say “no, I’m not going back.”
Suppose amnesty doesnt pass, and the invaders say no, Im not going back.
Maybe they're just checking out the real estate market.
Why worry about foreign helicopters entering US airspace when, at the samr time, perhaps hundreds of illegals and terrorists cross the border elsewhere?
Could they have been Kenyan helicopters? Just asking.
You’re kidding. We already know who the American government sides with—anyone who opposes the United States of America.
It is big time illegal to fire at any aircraft in the US just ask the FAA.
I know this may come as a shock to many here at FR, but we are actively helping the Government of Mexico fight this drug war the same way we helped Colombia. Earlier today Mexico arrested their number 1 heroin trafficker. The only reason he is under arrest is because CIA, NSA, DEA and who knows what other US agencies were able to track and pinpoint him.
Why on earth would we want to shoot down a Mexican helicopter that we paid for?
thanks for keeping us up on south texas, Swimmney.
I am assuming this is somewhere near Roma. Beautiful town with ancient 19th-century buildings falling into utter ruin.
Lots of fancy homes there along the highway just alongside the rio Grande.
A lovely and fascinating area with a lot of history, destroyed by this terrible situation.
can we shoot them down then?
“US officials are now trying to determine why the helicopter entered our airspace.”
Here’s a clue.
Because they can.
perhaps the Mexicans are helping Obama go after right-wing militias
My goodness, why are these Texans demanding the border be closed?
How about sending the Tx national guard down there?
Face it the big O will do nothing about this.
My biggest fear right now is that the pubbies take back congress and go forward on Amnesty. Instead of beginning the battle to dismantle the gov’t.
Not dismantle it totally, you know. Maybe about 60-70% would be good.
I don’t think the run-of-the-mill non military copters are that hard to shoot down. There was a story a few years back about someone shooting down a police helicopter with a standard hunting rifle. It’s just a matter of hitting them in the right spot.
Ping!
If you want on, or off this S. Texas/Mexico ping list, please FReepMail me.
Because nobody’s effin’ stopping them! Border Patrol needs stingers.
Colonel, USAFR
Borders schmorders. The idea of a border is so 20th century!
Good point. But do we not have choppers that could patrol our side of the river?
That's what I'm thinking - they were probably coming after one of their drug thugs and that's okay - come and get them - take 'em back on your side of the fence....just let us know what you're doing.
If we catch them on our side, we have to pay for room and board - I'd just as soon you come over and retrieve.
If we catch 'em, we get to keep 'em (or maybe we can give them back but I'm sure it's a long involved process).
I'm no big fan of the invasion from the south but I'm okay with this.
If my trash blows into someone else's yard, I pick it up anyway - it's still my trash.
Not like they couldn’t see the *BORDER*.
Aren’t we buying them a bunch of choppers?
Shoot the damned thing down, then if somehow there happens to be a single survivor, ask him why the mexican military has chosen to violate American airspace.
that is what .50 caliber rifles are for...
It is known that the helicopter was not in radio contact with applicable American Agencies?
