SACRAMENTO (AP) ― The California State University, Stanislaus campus is in an uproar over Sarah Palin's scheduled visit to the school's 50th anniversary celebration.

Palin, the former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice-presidential candidate, is scheduled to headline a black-tie fundraiser on campus in June.

But a student group is organizing a protest and its own event in response.

My mother always said we needed a few more Kent States back in the day. Not saying I agree with her, just saying.

When I was in college I enjoyed it when prominent liberals came and always afforded them the respect of allowing them to voice their opinions without any of the obnoxiousness you see from the left whenever a conservative speaks.

I don’t understand these liberals who proclaim themselves to be so open-minded but fight against speech. Personally I like to hear from those with whom I have disagreements because it forces me to grapple with their opinions which in turn can help make mine stronger and better reasoned. Heck a persuasive argument can make me reconsider my opinion. Perhaps thats what they are afraid of. They fear that Palin will make arguments that they cannot refute.

Brainless twits; they won’t be adult human beings until they’ve been out in the real world for a while and seen a thing or two.

Free advertising by AP for the anti Palin event. Hardly newsworthy before the fact.

"Pushes back" makes it sound as though someone attacked them. How about College group attempts to stifle an opposing point of view?

Leftie media - lying clowns & buffoons.

“I don’t understand these liberals who proclaim themselves to be so open-minded....”

.
Today’s “liberals” are more like communists who know that the practice of free speech will only expose their deceitful objectives to the public.

"College Group Pushes Back Against Palin Speech

Doesn't "push back" imply that someone has "pushed first"?

Has Palin "pushed" anyone at this liberal mecca?

When are the college Deans going to step in and declare this infraction of free speech to be a crime, and toss the perps out of the school until they grow up.

Oops...I forgot, most of the deans at these liberal strongholds haven't grown up either, or, developed any integrity.

It’s amazing to think that these colleges are supposed to be places of free speech and free inquiry.

They celebrate artistic freedom with an obscene play (The Vagina Monologues). They celebrate leftist speakers. They celebrate leftist ideas. But they try to censor and shut down any conservative ideas or thoughts.

What does that tell us about their committments to the concept of freedom of speech and free inquiry?

If Sarah Palin is so full of it, they should be able to pick apart her arguments piece by piece. They could have Sarah on the ropes (figuratively speaking) in a Q and A session, if they have the answers to the opinions which Sarah will express.

But instead of any challenges to leftist orthodoxy, they want to just shut down debate. Hmmmm...............

If anyone on this earth expects and awaits action by any college dean or president, then I hope they have large stocks of provisions to sustain their wait.
If anyone on this earth expects and awaits civilized action by the STUDENT BODY of our liberal colleges then good luck.
If anyone is familiar with the historical definition of STUDENT, they will know that be a STUDENT, one acknowledges that one DOES NOT KNOW and is seeking to KNOW.
These twerps do not know..neither do they wish to know.
Personally, I believe they have wonderful grounds for a Class Action Suit to obtain a full tuition refund plus damages.

Exactly.
That is the real story here-The media treatment, spin and headline bias.
That someone expressing their ideas in a speech invites and necessitates “pushback”.

Non-violent protests and a competing event are fine. Demanding that the college rescind Palin’s invitation is not. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Looks like Sarah's about to get the "Ann Coulter" treatment. No doubt, there will be a band of about 200 "committed" student "activists" (read, fellow-travellers who borrowed student IDs from real students) who will start threatening imminent violence against persons and property, and the speech will be shut down "for the public's safety" by the "benevolent" fascists in charge of the university.
