When I was growing up, people who had stashes of food and miscellaneous supplies on hand, just enough to last a couple few months were referred to as NEITHER survivalists nor preparedness folks -- such persons with extras as described in the BBC article were simply known as HOARDERS.
I had NO idea that today's HOARDERS are embarressed of being mistaken for survivalists. These people were in NO way prepared for a disaster, they simply were exhibiting classic traits of one version of obsessive compulsive disorder. Perhaps these OCD'rs are also embarressed about OCD????

Mormons have a year or two of supplies stored as a matter of practise. Its a community rule.No one calls them horders! I think they are damned smart!

I’m neither a survivalist, nor a hoarder, more like a packrat. :’)
Thanks hennie pennie.
