NEW YORK -- For some, the vote on health-care reform was apparently more than historical - it was biblical.
Rep. Michael McMahon was likened to the traitor Judas at a rally celebrating the passage of health-care reform outside City Hall Thursday that turned somewhat into a bash-fest of the lone New York City congressman who voted against it.
Chris Shelton, vice president of the Communications Workers of America, District One, said the comparison was apropos for Holy Thursday, which commemorates the "Last Supper" of Jesus Christ and his 12 apostles.
"We're here today to thank the 12 people in the congressional delegation in New York City who had the guts to stand up and do the right thing for the people, and the one from Staten Island - that Judas in Staten Island - who decided that the people didn't matter that he was going to do what he was going to do," Shelton said.
Shelton's comments elicited cheers and some laughter from the crowd, though it was clear that many in attendance really do feel betrayed by the Democrat, who represents Staten Island and a swath a Brooklyn. One Islander in attendance held a sign warning: "McMahon, We Will Not Forget."
Rep. Charles Rangel noted that Christ eventually forgave Judas - a suggestion that the delegation will still have to work with McMahon to meet some of its other goals.

It’s pretty clear that the real divide in this country, the real CW2 fault line, will be between the moochers and the producers. And most of the moochers live in the big cities. Plenty of producers too, but more moochers as shown by the moocher-enabling reps they elect.
Crowd? I’ll bet there weren’t even 12 chosen to be there.
More specifically, the union halls in the big cities. The only trace of support you see for this abominaiton is at manufactured, astro turf labor rallies, where everybody is being paid to be there.
This seat was long Republican before scandal ridden Vito Fosella threw it away in 2008. A sober Republican could win in 2010.
Judas still went to hell.
once CBO scores the ‘fixed’ bill, we’ll see ‘who had the guts to stand up and do the right thing for the people’
Here’s McMahon’s likely challenger-Mike Allegretti:

Know if he has a chance?
Hey mister union boss, how are those one time charges going to work out for your members? AT&T $1 billion, Verizon $970 million....
I wonder how many of the people affected by this voted for 0bama? Kinda sad how they voted to take away their own health benefits.
If the shame fits.....
ANd it will get much, much worse when all of these new govt. employees are hired to run “national health care.”
They will all be borderline retarded ‘rat moochers and union members.
I live on Staten Island. McMahon is a dope who can’t get out of his own way. The liberals on the North Shore of Staten Island are going to boot is ass out of Congress (hooray). Although he did the right thing by Staten Islanders by voting no to the health care debacle, I can’t wait to see his sorry ass go!
