Parent Blows Whistle on Teacher Promotion of Obama Internship

The parent of a Perry High School student in Massillon, Ohio, set off a firestorm in his community and in the blogosphere when he gave Pamela Geller, of AtlasShrugs.com, a copy of an internship application provided to his 11th-grade daughter's government class the last week of January. The information packet, emblazoned with the Obama presidential campaign logo, was from DNC-funded Organizing for America (OFA), the successor organization of Obama for America. The student's father, identified as "Chuck," told Geller that the teacher offered no Republican Party internship equivalent to students.

The document, posted in its entirety on Geller's website, promotes a ten-week internship for "empowering students across the country to help us bring about our agenda of change," and for which students may receive course credit. Interns must commit to at least 12 hours a week, and will be taught how to be "leaders in OFA's organizing work this summer," i.e., campaign workers for the 2010 election season.

Ya' know. I've been looking over your posting history. You do the same thing that Satan did to Eve in the garden. You ask little questions, just seeking information (oh, how innocent!) but those questions are designed to cast doubt on the one to whom you're speaking.

I think you're a troll!

From your Freeper page:

"I think our agenda is clear. We are opposed to: government spending, Kennedy kids, seat-belt laws, busing our children anywhere other than Yale, trailer courts near our vacation homes, all tiny Third World countries that don’t have banking secrecy laws, aerobics, the UN, taxation without tax loopholes, and jewelry on men. We are in favor of: guns, drugs, fast cars, free love (if our wives don’t find out), a sound dollar, and a strong military with spiffy uniforms."

Wow. Is that what you really believe? Some of that stuff is really off the wall. I would suggest that it sounds more like rich, hypocritical, self-righteous Hollywood leftists.

You might fit in better with the slobbering misfits over at Dummocrat Underground.

Similar thing happened at my kids' high screwel. They were given info about Green Empowerment and the "presenter's" asked the kids to sign a petition. Some of them did (and some even gave email addresses). Our kid told us about it, we called the principal and were basically told the same thing..."the teacher had no idea what was in the material or that they'd collect signatures, he collected the petitions, blah, blah."

I looked up the "organization" sponsoring the presentation...it's a part of The Tides Foundation!

Of course socialist schools are going to promote socialism. The only mistake the classroom bureaucrat made was getting caught by giving the package to a kid whose father bothered to see what was in it.

Of course, if the father wasn’t having his lifestyle subsidized by participating in the nation’s biggest “entitlement” program he might find a capitalist school is less likely to promote socialism than a government school is.

I am a proud teacher, and an even prouder FReeper. Here’s my take on this situation. First of all, we get this sort of thing in the “junk” mail at school all the time. Not only do we get hard copy; we also get emails. They arrive looking very official in expensive envelopes, with lots of compliments to the school and the teacher. I’m imagining that the teacher saw the Obama seal and thought, “It’s the President; it’s fine.” The teacher unfortunately probably never even thought that it might be Democrat propaganda and that a Republican alternative could also have been offered.
I’m not ignorant; mine go straight into the recycle bin.

"Perry High Principal Don Gregoire sent parents a letter about the controversy on February 1, 2010. "We apologize that your son or daughter was given this information without approval," Gregoire wrote. "This error in following Board Policy has been addressed and has been clearly communicated to staff."

Are we to believe a slick and professional packet was printed up .... just one, mind you ... and it was sent to one teechah to give to one stoont, and that now the matter is finished?

Oh America, America how long will you be so deaf and dumb to the chariot wheels carrying you to the guillotine?

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
