The scare tactics used to oppose Medicare in the 1960s -- not to mention Social Security in the 1940s -- were much the same as what critics of comprehensive health care reform are saying about the bill signed into law by the president this week. If anything, the current rhetoric is even more overheated: "This is a socialistic plan to deprive you of your freedom, kill your grandmother and bankrupt the nation in the process."
Americans should take comfort from that. The nation came to love both Social Security and Medicare, and I predict they will come to love the new health care reforms, too.
I will go out on a limb and make this prediction: At a Tea Party rally some 20 or 30 years down the road, an enraged citizen at a town hall meeting, probably in South Carolina, will shout the words: "Keep your government hands off my Obamacare!"

No he is wrong. I remember the against Medicare arguements as my family used to read that stuff out loud and discuss it. The against turned out to be right in that it would cost much more. What is different is that most Americans were and still are against this awful bill and our governent went a head and passed it anyway.
It is just amazing that these idiots think endless amounts of everything will be free forever. They do not grasp that there is not, nor can there be, the money to pay for their $100T fantasies.
More and more they are like insane people, a starving man in the desert who demands a sandwich because he *wants* one! It is a reliance on magic to provide. That if he prays to the right god, or just keeps screaming, somehow, some way, a sandwich will appear before him.
