Were you aware that the FairTax rate applies to all spending and uses a portion to fund SS/Medicare ? This effectively eliminates the current cap on earnings which are taxed for SS/M, such that high earners/spenders pay much more than they currently do into those programs — yet they do not get any additional benefit from SS/M in return for their raised taxes. It also means retirees spending their savings are still paying into SS/M even after they retire. That is hardly “Fair”.
The FairTax would be a much better idea if it left SS/M out of things, left out the “progressiveness” caused by the costly rebate, and thereby could replace just the Federal Income Tax ($1.2T) using a much lower 10% rate.
