NYT: New Health Care Law Does Not Help Democrats in Poll
The New York Times ^ | April 2, 2010 | Marjorie Connelly

Posted on 04/02/2010 6:45:07 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

The legislative wrangling over the health care reform bill that became law last week has not translated into improved poll ratings for any of the principal participants.

In the latest CBS News Poll, 44 percent approve of how President Obama is handling his job, down from 49 percent in a poll taken just before the health care bill passed in the House of Representatives. Mr. Obama received a 41 percent disapproval rating in both surveys.

The public is particularly unhappy with Mr. Obama’s management of health care. Only a third, 34 percent, approve of the president’s handling of health care, down from 41 percent before the health care bill passed. Fifty-five_percent disapprove, including a majority of Republicans and independents. While most Democrats approve of how Mr. Obama is handling health care, almost a third disapprove.

Other recent national polls have given the president higher marks for his job handling. In the Gallup tracking poll based on interviews conducted March 30 through April 1, 50 percent approve of Mr. Obama and 43 percent disapprove.

The public’s impression of both Democratic Congressional leaders — Representative Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of the House, and Senator Harry Reid, the majority leader of the Senate — has become increasingly negative. According to the latest USA Today/Gallup poll, Mr. Reid is better known since the last time Gallup asked about him in November 2008. His favorable rating is now 29 percent, basically unchanged from the earlier poll when 27 percent had a favorable view. But his negative number has increased from 30 percent in 2008 to 45 percent in the latest poll.

Ms. Pelosi is viewed favorably by 36 percent and unfavorably by 54 percent. Both numbers are up slightly from Gallup’s last reading in July 2009, when 32 percent were favorable and 48 percent unfavorable.(continued)

I have underestimated Mr. Obama.

For years every poll I’ve ever seen shows that the American public “trusts Democrats more with health care than Republicans”. Years. Decades.

In 15 months, Obama has broken that stranglehold. Americans may not trust the Democrats to handle their health care for a long time after this. His complete tonedeafness has damaged his own party terribly.

One of the articles had a hard core NY liberal Dem who was furious about Obamacare.

They had Mercedes Benz coverage on the cheap with Medicare and Medicare Advantage. Well they are gonna get thrown into a pool with the poor, illegals and minorities and have their care rationed. Many of these people in FL are “death panel” contestants in waiting. They are furious. And baby boomers turn will come soon.

ObamaCare is hated in Florida.

Only a third, 34 percent, approve of the president’s handling of health care

Coincidentally, that's the same percentage of those polled who were college professors, teachers, politicians, criminals, unemployed, or openly marxist...

Oh wait, that last one makes the others redundant.

“People in Florida HATE Obamacare”.

That, along with his destruction of the manned space program, may have wrecked Dem chances of winning FL for a long time. It doesn’t matter how many Haitians they drop into the I4 corridor or how many felons they get voting.

Granted, I live in a conservative area, but people here really dislike what he’s done here.

As Nancy said, they had to pass it for us to find out what was in it. Now that the a couple of the Dems major voting blocks (seniors/retirees and young voters/college students) have found out how much it is going to cost them, they don't like it.

Lots of soon to be former Democrat voters.

People in Florida HATE ObamaCare.

That makes sense since the whole point of the thing is to deny treatment to older people. I always suspected that this was the plan for the boomers. Too many of them. Can't afford it. Don't fix the program. Much more fun to just do them in. Just evel.

The legislative wrangling over the health care reform bill that became law last week has not translated into improved poll ratings for any of the principal participants...well, duh - most gratifying are the trend lines on Gallop's polling of the congressional generic ballot - for months and months leading into mid-March 'rats led 'pubs by points - by now, 'pubs lead 'rats by three points - the two lines cross just about on the very day when Obamacare was passed - can't get more graphic than that.....
