"I don't want my tax dollars to go toward 'snail-darter' research."
"You travel the Interstate, don't you?"
We pay for the highways at the gas pump. In fact, we should repeal ALL federal taxes at the gas pump and allow the state to collect the taxes instead. This would eliminate federal blackmail on traffic laws. States like CA and NY wouldn’t be stealing money from donor states like Indiana. Take money from what some libs call “fly over territory” and give it to the liberal states.
The Interstate Highway system established by Eisenhower was viewed as a national security issue so that we would have the transportation infrastructure for logistics in time of war. Its economic benefits are self-evident.
Their favorite bait and switch: Promise us roads and give us bureaucrats and theft. Meanwhile the roads crumble to dust.
Right On!
Exactly. They just want you to shut up and pay for it; with a smile.
If you want an abuse of the highway system, Harry Reid had US 95 upgraded to a four lane divided Highway to Searchlight (population 700). It just so happens Harry has 250 acres along that highway, which before the real estate crash he was likely setting up to be a residential development worth $50 million.
I will post an excerpt from my book HARRY: Money Mob & Influence that covers this at some point. If anyone is interested, freepmail me.

The genius of calling it "Government" funding, money, grant, etc. never ceases to amaze me, as do the people who apparently haven't figured out that the money is our money, just as the rebate on their taxes (given they pay any) is their money, loaned for free to the Government.
Maybe if the cartoonist, actually paid attention in school, instead of doodling on it's notebook....Oh wait it's probably a byproduct of Liberal edumacation, so let me rephrase.
Maybe if the cartoonist, didn't pay attention in school and instead doodled in it's notebook: Their ignorance would not be on display today
The typical liberal debate style.
Introduce a strawman, then attack the strawman rather than the actual issue.
The tea parties aren’t about not paying taxes. One of the things the tea parties are about is paying taxes for highways and then having the money skimmed off to pay for completely for unrelated things. (Carl Levin wanting highway funds to save Tiger stadium is a good example)
Misuse of taxes is only one of the issues that brought the tea parties into existence.
Like I said, they are incredibly stupid.
The United States Constitution
Article 1
Section. 8.
Clause 1: The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;
......
Clause 7: To establish Post Offices and post Roads;
“The HTF was created as a user-supported fund. Simply, the revenues of the HTF were intended for financing highways, with the taxes dedicated to the HTF paid by the users of highways. This principle is still in effect, but the tax structure has changed since 1956. Major revisions occurred as a result of the Surface Transportation Assistance Act (STAA) of 1982 and the Deficit Reduction Act of 1984. Those acts increased the motor-fuel taxes for the first time since 1959. The 1982 STAA also established a special Mass Transit Account in the HTF to receive part of the motor-fuel tax.83”
As usual the Dummies seem to think everything is paid for by the Money fairy in Washington D.C. Idiots.
The libs too often think like Congressman Hare from Illinois...”I don’t care about the Constitution...”
Well sicne most of them don’t work I don’t see much humor in using something we paid for?
We’re letting roads in Michigan return to dirt and putting some $200 million into a high speed rail that won’t ever be built.
Sigh........
Yeah, but just think; you're giving Willie Green a tingle down his leg.
