My family and I were running as fast as we could, but the zombies got closer and closer.
In desperation, I did the only thing I could think of: I started reciting Bible verses. The zombies slowed to a crawl and then to a stop. Something seemed to be happening to them, something that made them considerably less sinister. Unfortunately, my supply of memorized scriptures was disappearing fast, and I knew that, once it was gone, they'd be after us again. But just when I came to the very last verse of my scriptural ammunition supply, we were saved: I woke up.
Now it doesn't take a Daniel or a Freud to figure out why I had this dream and what it means.
Much of it is Ken Blanchard's fault, though Jon Schaff and Dave Grettler share the blame. The gun connoisseurs of our NSU history and social science department had been discussing for days an Outdoor Life article on the best guns for dealing with zombies and drooling over pictures of weapons like the Lauer AR-15 with attached arrow launcher and a modified Remington 870 shotgun.
But the real source of my dream, I think, is a nagging fear that I have been shoving the Bible aside for other things, shoving Christ himself aside, and that I will eventually get into trouble as a result - that maybe I am already in trouble, well on the way to becoming a zombie in a nation of zombies.
The words I speak unto you, said Jesus, are spirit and life - and without those words, we are little more than walking dead, governed by appetites we don't quite understand, constantly hungry for more, feeding on the life of others, spreading more death everywhere we go.
The only alternative is to learn to feed on Christ himself. Jesus used a gruesome image, telling us that, unless we ate his flesh and drank his blood, there was no life in us.
Many of Jesus' disciples struggled with the idea. A difficult teaching: Who can understand it? they asked. It's even harder for us to understand today, so ingrained we are with the idea that life is nothing more than the survival of the fittest, a struggle for our own right to survive and reproduce, that selfishness is not only OK but inevitable.
But living by this principle isn't life at all: It's death - the philosophy of the zombies. The principle of life, real life, is precisely the reverse, to sacrifice oneself for others. A good shepherd gives his life for the sheep, Jesus told us. Again-a difficult image, a reverse of what we expect, and certainly a reverse of the way we act.
But that is what the gospel message demands - a great reverse, a turning: repentance. There is a way that seems right unto a man, says Proverbs, but the end of that way is only death.
Christ's word delivers us from our old dead ways - better even than a Remington 870 shotgun in dealing with the walking death.
Call me crazy, but my first instinct is to still use the Remington to cut them in half. Kind of slows the zombie down when they have no legs.
Beat ‘em or burn ‘em, they go up pretty quick.
Uh...and Easter celebrates Jesus getting and walking around after death...?
A good shepherd gives his life for his sheep.
This does not mean the good shepherd just lies down and doesn’t fight. A good shepherd puts his life on the line for his sheep, but he fights the wolves and others - he doesn’t just let the wolves overwhelm him and hope they don’t continue on towards the sheep.
This is often taken out of context to mean no fighting, total passivity, just let yourself be slaughtered.
This is not a Christian ideal.
Those who say “well Christ did”, I say to you He KNEW HE WAS THE SACRIFICE FOR ALL OF US. That was His mission.
It is a cursed thing for a man not to defend his family. What’s the point of providing for a family or others onyl to not fight for them and let all of them be killed without any resistance? Especially when you have the ability to fight back?
Self-defense is not only moral, it is your duty. God gave you life, that life is precious, we all are given instincts to preserve that life and the lives of others, especially those we think are helpless. Otherwise we could have the liberal econuts who claim to be christian calling all their members to commit suicide in order to save others by using less resources on the planet - after all you’re saved so if you die you’re going to heaven. But we don’t advocate that.
I’m afraid that lulls you into a false sense of security. They sneak up on you and bite though your Achilles tendon. Then you are an easy meal.
Very simple. The spirit of life itself was held as residing in the blood, much as the Lord breathed life into afar (grey lifeless dust) which became Adam which means "red," as in "adamah" (fertile soil). For nearly 1,500 years the Children of Israel had been proscribed from all blood, especially eating it as was a common practice among pagans. The distinction was a sanctification and purification process to make them ready for taking the life of G-d himself into them via the Pesach of the Messiah.
Interestingly, the Jewish people say the Amidah every week, "you keep your faith with those who sleep in dust," a prayer that speaks of the promise of Messiah.
How about if I recite scripture while I am shooting them with the 12 gauge with double-ought shot?
Or if I “bless” the shot?
I guess I should get this down before its too late.
The knobkierrie makes a very simple, practical tool for the dispatching of zombies.

Hah! The best anti-zombie weapon is a semi-automatic grenade launcher. Explosive rounds are great at stopping zombies.

“I say to you He KNEW HE WAS THE SACRIFICE FOR ALL OF US. That was His mission.”
Not only did He know it, He chose it.
Liberal Zombies seem to be growing in numbers, I think the public schools are churning them out.
Just shoot them in the head, from a distance!
Bookmarking for the ZPL when I get home from work.
I disagree ... you don't have to reload a machete!
“Liberal Zombies seem to be growing in numbers, I think the public schools are churning them out.”
You mean like Democrats?
