Scores of gangbangers marauded through Times Square and nearby streets last night, storming businesses and harrassing pedestrians as three people were shot in possibly related violence. Hundreds of cops struggled to disperse the youths. One man was shot in the ankle on West 41st Street between Seventh and Eighth avenues. Early this morning two people were shot at 34th Street between Seventh and Eighth avenues. Their conditions were not immediately known. Twenty young men were seen fleeing the scene. * * * At least 30 people, including seven juveniles, were arrested by early this morning. In past years, the NYPD and businesses have beefed up security in the area on Easter Sunday, which has become known in certain circles as "Gang Initiation Day."

I was in NYC yesterday. Leaving to go home I ride up Eighth Ave and turn left on 31st Street to get to the Lincoln Tunnel. Traffic was strangely backed up on Eighth Ave beginning around 27th Street.

The newest wave of ‘surge’ mobs. This is a copycat of the ones in Philly the last few weeks. Coming to city, even a mall near you. It’s going to be a long hot summer.
Teen unemployment at an alltime high, not that that is an excuse but a likely contributing factor.

This is definitely new activity. Post 911 there was a tremendous amount of police presence in Times Square, Penn Station and in NYC in general. Crime had been way down. Over the past six months there haven’t been as many cops out and conditions in the city have noticeably deteriorated. This is not good. I’m afraid NYC will revert back to the pre-Giuliani days when Dinkins turned it into a cesspool.
If police would just gun those thugs down, our society would be better.
These uncivilized animals will never contribute anything good to society.

It seems to be a ritual in Philadelphia. Since the Philadelphia PD doesn’t do anything the DOJ hasn’t been involved.
They’re just auditioning for Obama’s civil offense force.
What I don’t understand is that if they know this will happen, what weren’t the police prepared?
I wasn’t in the area but heard about it. Generally speaking, we hear every year that this will happen. It revolves around the car show at the Javits Center. They all go to the car show and then hit times square. Usually there are a few incidents, but with the nice weather it seems this year was worse.

But, we had marauding Gang Bangers in my little Cow Town of 6K a few years back. 33 rounds fired, in broad daylight, near an Elementary School. Our idiot Sheriff is STILL against CC. *Rolleyes*

Gee, no pictures of Bloomberg on site and helping the police calm down the rioters. Probably, not a good Photo Op given that the it was a tourist area. Where is Rudy when you need him?
Bloomberg was probably checking out the sugared soft drink compliance at the local 7-11 type stores.
Funny the way the NYC located CBS/NBC/ABC Morning Shows didn’t think it was worth reporting this morning, but the Egg Hunt at the White House got massive coverage.
The good news is: in a few years, when those rioters get shot, at least they will have to use their own obamacare policy for treatment, rather than use public assistance.
The private sector is always smarter than the public sector. Even when it comes to street gangs. These gangs are smart enough to stay in New york and other areas with a similarly degraded and cowardly populace. No way you will be seeing anything like this in Utah, Idaho or Wyoming, for example. It’s too dangerous for the gang bangers. They stay where the pickings are easy.
Why post something when you are obviously ignorant concerning what was said? I drive this route frequently and know that traffic usually flows freely in that area on Sundays at that hour. Should I view all your posts as so completely lacking in knowledge?
