Last summer, President Obama spent several months publicly anguishing over what he would or wouldn't do in Afghanistan. Finally, he
agreed to ramp up troop levels but warned that he intended to start getting American troops out in 18 months. After anguishing in several columns over the president's anguishing, I concluded in November 2009:
"If the Taliban and al Qaeda retake Afghanistan, the world (and America) will have hell to pay for the consequences. But this president and this White House do not have it in them to lead our troops to victory in Afghanistan. So they shouldn't try. The price will be high for whatever foreign policy failures we will endure in the next three years. Let's not add to that price the pointless murder of our finest young troops in a war their leader does not believe in. Bring them home. We'll need them later."

and today the bombing in Iraq that killed 39 people in an apartment complex was blamed on “al Qaeda”
al Qaeda in Iraq, imagine that
Every single thing that Obama touches, turns to crap. I agree with Blankley, if our troops do not have a clear mission for victory and the support they need to achieve it..bring them home.
My, my, could that be on purpose/i>??
Obama won’t be happy until we do a Vietnam-like exit from Kabul with people clinging to the skids of helicopters.
Under the current Rules of Engagement, our boys and girls in Afghanistan are little more than cannon fodder. If we’re not going to win, then cut our losses and get out.
Seriously, Obama is screwing up everything.
Hugo Chavez purchasing $5 billion in arms from Putin
North Korea sinking a South Korean Ship
Allowing Iran to go Nuclear
Allowing Iraq to deteriorate
Publicly Showing disrespect to Israel our ally
Encouraging the Palestinian to further unrest
Destroying everything in Afghanistan
Destroying the economic powerhouse of America
Taking away our Liberty via ObamaCare
How much more? The only remaining question is, when will the cauldron of gunpowder and nitro glycerin Obama is mixing blow to high heaven?
In my view, Obama managed to irk Karzai when he showed up in Afghanistan for 12 hours, and Karzai’s announcement that he would join the Taliban is a direct whack at Obama.
Now we have “another” situation that Obama has screwed-up beyond repair, so I think if Karzai is not going to be taken out, then it’s time to bring our brave troops home.
Why sacrifice our treasure in a war the Kenyan,Muslim,Marxist-CIC that idiot voters elected doesn’t want to fight?
I fear it won’t be too long before al Queda blows something up on our shores. This weakling pretender president is basically sending out an open invitation to our enemies.
“bammy’s way out of his financial mess... will be Roosevelt’s...let the world burn...
All of the above, good list. Let me add that Hillary with her demands that Canada have more abortions has put relations with the Harper government in the dumper.
He sent the troops and then he cut their legs out from under them.
My nephew just deployed to Afghanistan. Pray for them and our commander in chief. God is able to direct Obama whether Obama knows it or not. God is our protection.
Thanks to your nephew for his service. Our troops are always in my prayers.
-Barack Hussein Obama
I agree onyx. This is going to sound radical, but I never understood why the US stuck it’s nose in the Afghan poppy production before they had viable economic alternatives ready to propose for the afghan populace. The afghans have been growing poppies for centuries and it’s more than naive for our country to think we could stop an entire economic foundation for a country as poor as Afghanistan. It seems to me that they could have chosen a middle road of some kind. There are legitimate uses for opioids (medicine,etc.). Why couldn’t they have proposed that Afghanistan supply opium for drug manufacturers or something? I am probably being wildly naive here as well, but it just seems they could have handled this a little better imho.
I agree with you and have suggested many times that a deal should have first been brokered to buy the crop for that very purpose and destroy the rest. Much cheaper than trying to interrupt drug shipments, but that would put a lot of enforcement agencies out of work, wouldn’t it?
We’re just too damn pragmatic, penelopesire!
Is this going to persuade China and Putin to lay down arms?
Who is to say how Iran or North Korea or al Qaeda - possessor of the “poor man's nukes”, ie chemical and bio agents inteneded for mass murder- how will these men interpret Barry's unilateral gesture?
The Ivy League pinhead armchair generals around the weakling obama have been preaching this unilateral “no nukes” disarmament strategy all their lives- just look how many times they have been “right” about the altruism and good will of the haters of Western culture and civilization???
And how many times history has proven “right” on the foreign policy beliefs of people like John Kerry, Pelosi, Reid, Hillary/Bill Clinton, Mad Albright, Jane Fonda, Ramsey Clark, Joe Biden, etc .
That would have been an excellent solution onyx. We probably could have saved many lives and lots of money doing it your way.
